Ikigai Shift

Ikigai Shift The Story So Far…. In 1997 I started my career in the Fitness undertaking training with Network Fitness. Whist there, I opened a Pilates Studio.

IKIGAI SHIFT
The culmination of 27 years of experience working in private practice and elite sport. 27 years of training and working in the fields of Personal Training, Myotherapy, Remedial Massage, Clinical/ Studio Pilates and Physiotherapy. The Miracle Massage, Pilates and Fitness that operates today is the combination of 19 years of experience and the fusion of a successful massage practice, fitness career and Pilates. I worked in Canberra at Deakin Health Spa and taught swimming at Goulburn Aquatic Centre. In 1999 I began training at CIT in Relaxation Massage, Remedial Massage and Soft Tissue Therapy. In 2000 while still training in Soft Tissue Therapy one of my teachers said to me that I should go and do Pilates training to look after my body and cope with the physical nature of massaging full time. I attended a studio in Canberra and was instantly hooked. Miracle Massage was established in April 2001, and I operated from the Eldorado Arcade. In that same year I was fortunate to also work part-time at the AIS, (Australian Institute of Sport). I also continued my Pilates training at the AIS and was able to observe Pilates prescribed to elite and individual athletes. This specific Pilates prescription is very apparent in my classes today. In 2004, I travelled with Australian Rowing team through Europe and with the AIS swimming team in the lead up to the Athens Olympics. From 2005, Pilates training was firmly on the radar to incorporate into Miracle Massage. My accountant at the time thought that I was going to be offering pies and lattes! In 2006, I completed an in studio apprenticeship at Modern Pilates on Sydney’s North Shore, training in both Mat and Equipment based Pilates. Here, my understanding and passion of the pelvic floor and how to incorporate pelvic floor training and core stability into my practice was established. As a result, I undertook clinic research and developed a treatment protocol specific for pelvic, spine and breathing dysfunction. This treatment has been validated through ultrasound and is a continuing project and passion. My research has been recognised by my peers and I was able to present this treatment process at the 2008 and 2009 Soft Tissue Therapy Conferences and the 2009 Sports Medicine Australia Conference. In 2012, Miracle Massage moved to the Marima Medical Centre. This was a great opportunity to practice Soft Tissue Therapy in a modern and cutting edge medical centre. The growth of classes was rapid and hence the move to the current space at 49 Clifford St.

What have we learnt? We are still learning but we do know this. All change has to come from within and in order to achieve it. It must have life value to drive it.

Why IKIGAI? Ikig*i is a Japanese term that blends two words:
"iki" meaning "to live," and "g*i" meaning "reason," which translates to
"a reason to live." It's a concept that encourages people to discover what truly matters to them and to live a life filled with purpose and joy.
Why SHIFT? It’s taking a new direction and taking responsibility for the change you want and need.

At Ikig*i Shift we have a dedicated team of people who can provide treatment, training, rehabilitation and fitness services to help you achieve the Shift that you want with your health, fitness and lifestyle goals
