Rotary Club of Goulburn

Rotary Club of Goulburn Serving Goulburn and the international community since 1930. Our projects, programs and events serve the Goulburn community and abroad.

We are a dynamic group of people who volunteer our time based on the ideal of Service Above Self - Rotary's core value. Chartered in 1930, the Rotary Club of Goulburn is an amalgamated Rotary Club, comprising the former Rotary Clubs of Goulburn, Goulburn Mulwaree and Goulburn Argyle. Rotary is an international service organisation of business and professional men and women who accept the 'Ideal of

Service' as the basis for success and happiness in business and community life. The Rotary Club of Goulburn raises its funds through annual Swap Meet
and Book Fair, monthly Parkside Markets as well as various catering activities including Goulburn Speedway and other opportunities as they arise. The fellowship involved in working together is a feature of our Club. Our Club raises funds to support many organisations locally, throughout Australia and the world. Some of our beneficiaries include: Goulburn Base Hospital, Polio Plus, Bowel Care, Goulburn Prostate Cancer Support Group, the Salvation Army and many more. The Rotary Club of Goulburn meets every Monday evening at 6pm for 6.15pm at the Goulburn Workers Club, Goulburn. Guests are very welcome to attend, and can contact us through Facebook to book in, or give President Geoff Thrower a call on 0417 667 045.

Our thanks to these legends from Goulburn Rugby Union for coming to lend a hand for the set up of the Goulburn Rotary Charity Book Fair.

It takes a village to bring the Book Fair together this year, and we appreciate the support of the lads.

Opening tomorrow morning from 9am for 3.5 days!

A great day on the green, making a difference where it counts 💜

Following the success of our Goulburn Rotary Charity Golf Day, event organiser Rotarian Rose was pleased to present a donation to Carol James, President of the Goulburn Lilac City Festival- one of four local groups to benefit from this year’s event.

These funds will help support the much-loved Festival, a highlight on Goulburn’s calendar that brings colour, energy and community spirit to our region.

A huge thank you to everyone who played, sponsored and supported the day. Together, we’re able to back the people and events that make Goulburn such a vibrant place to live.💜

We were honoured to hear from Gill O’Connor, who shared the deeply personal story of her and Mick’s journey following Mick’s Parkinson’s diagnosis in 2002.

With honesty, warmth and quiet strength, Gill spoke about the realities of living with Parkinson’s, a condition that still carries many unknowns when it comes to causes and a cure. Their story was a powerful reminder of the importance of connection, understanding and ongoing support for those navigating this path.

Rotary Club of Goulburn has proudly supported the local Parkinson’s Support Group for many years. Through their incredible community fundraising efforts, the group continues to fund a full-time specialist Parkinson’s nurse for our region - a vital service making a real difference to individuals and families every day.

Gill and Mick’s story is one of resilience, love and community, and we thank them both for sharing it so generously with us.

🎉 A birthday celebration with a Rotary twist!

To mark Goulburn’s birthday on 14 March, Rotarian Tony Lamarra stepped up with an incredibly generous $2,000 donation to the Rotary Club of Goulburn - a nod to both our city’s history and Rotary’s long-standing role in the community.

Of course, it wouldn’t be Rotary without a bit of fun along the way… Geoff and Sarah found themselves on the receiving end of a record-breaking fines session, helping pave the way for two $1,000 donations from Tony and Adriana Lamarra.

Pictured here: Rotarians Tony, Geoff, Sarah and Jock - a great snapshot of the people, personality and generosity that keep Rotary ticking.

Because at the end of the day, it’s not just about what we raise… it’s how we come together to do it 💙

A fantastic result for Goulburn following the recent visit of the Mherv - Men's Health Education Rural Van.

A big thank you to Nurse Kath and Craig, who created a welcoming, down-to-earth space for our community to check in on their health. Across the two days, the van saw 43 attendees on Saturday and 34 on Monday - a strong turnout and a great reflection of the community’s willingness to have these important conversations.

Each person who visited received a health check and was assessed across three categories – from low through to those needing more immediate attention. Pleasingly, only one attendee was identified as Category 3, requiring urgent follow-up at the hospital.

A great initiative, great engagement, and a great outcome for our community. 💙

As a Club, we like to support those who support us and have a shared love for our community. Vishal from CAFE 5911 Goulburn is exactly that.

President Bruce and some of our Rotarians recently dropped by to help Vishal and the team celebrate the launch of their new brand - Thirsty Farmer.

Congratulations Vishal on another wonderful milestone and the ongoing success of your business!

We were so pleased to welcome Dr Jim Huntley as guest speaker at Rotary Club of Goulburn.

Jim shared stories from a truly remarkable life of service - as a psychologist and neuropsychologist, and through 30 years with the NSW Rural Fire Service, including his long involvement with the Gundary Brigade and service during the 2019/20 Bushfire Emergency. Jim's reflections on the growth of the RFS, the strength of brigade connections, and the importance of working together across the state were thoughtful, generous and fascinating.

What made Jim’s presentation especially memorable was not only his professional and volunteer achievements, but the warmth and humility with which he shared them. From remote fire deployments and clinical work across Southern NSW, the ACT and the Northern Territory, to hobbies including bushwalking, fencing, archery, cheesemaking, music and coffee-making, Jim’s story is a wonderful reminder that a life of service can also be rich with curiosity, connection and joy.

Thank you, Jim, for spending the evening with us and for all you continue to contribute to our community and beyond.

Our Rotarians have been a little bit everywhere lately… and we wouldn’t have it any other way!

In the past month alone, Rotary Club of Goulburn has been busy out in the community with the Goulburn Speedway canteen, Goulburn Show gates, Goulburn Rotary Markets, Mherv - Men's Health Education Rural Van and our Log Book Learner Driver Run - and this weekend, we’re back at it again at the Goulburn Speedway canteen.

You might well ask… why do we do it?
Because every snag served, every gate checked, every market set up, every conversation had, and every hour volunteered helps us give back to our community in meaningful ways.

You might also ask… when do we sleep?
Excellent question. We’re still working on that one, but rest assured when we do sleep, we sleep well!

And is it worth it?
Absolutely. Every single time.

Behind all the early mornings, long days and busy weekends is a group of people who care deeply about Goulburn and the people in it. Rotary is about rolling up our sleeves, pitching in where needed, and creating real impact, while having a few laughs along the way. If this sounds like something you need in your life, let's chat!

To our wonderful volunteers and supporters: thank you. Community doesn’t happen by accident, and we’re proud to be part of what makes ours so special.

This morning our Rotarians are out and about monitoring check points for the learner driver Log Book Run. 🚗

This great partnership with Goulburn Mulwaree Council helps learner drivers develop their skills, get feedback at various checkpoints and hear directly from Council’s Road Safety Officer and Police. 🚓

Rotarian Sarah is monitoring the hillstart, having flashbacks to her own experiences as a learner driver and her many false starts on Verner Street in a manual. 🚙

Mherv - Men's Health Education Rural Van is here today and Monday in Market Street.

Despite the name, it’s for Men and Women and offers a free 5 minute health check with a nurse, and some quality banter from our Rotarians.

We’d love to see you, and either make sure you get a clean bill of health or get on top of an issue you didn’t know you had.

This Saturday 14th March and on Monday 16th we welcome the Mherv - Men's Health Education Rural Van (MHERV) back to Goulburn Australia.

The MHERV van will be rolling into Montague Street, bringing with it a fantastic community health initiative. The van provides free health checks, health information, and friendly conversations with experienced health staff, all in an easy drop-in format.

Although it focuses on encouraging men to take charge of their health, the service is open to everyone. Both men and women are welcome to stop by, have a chat, and learn more about maintaining good health. With no cost and no pressure, it’s a great opportunity for our community to prioritise wellbeing.

Opposite Harvest Goulburn this coming Saturday and Monday from 9.30am to 4pm.

Proudly brought to you by the Rotary Club of Goulburn in partnership with the Rotary Club of Warners Bay.
