Today we celebrated alongside our Traditional Old Style Hawaiian Lomi Lomi Massage Ohana at Cabarita beach, a special dawn ceremony in honour of our beautiful Kahu Sherman Dudoit who recently passed away. His essence lives on in the lineage he has passed down through Kumu Dawn Charlton and those who experiience the bliss of lomi. I feel blessed to have met him.
My gift to Sherman for his celebration of life is this poem I wrote from the heart 💜
Carry the Lineage Forward
(A tribute for Sherman - by Ruth Naug)
Into the wind
feel your wings soar,
let the sunset drink the night,
hear the cries from the ocean shore.
The beauty of your words,
wisdom entwined with touch,
feel the rhythm of your heart,
the imprint of love — so much.
Each connection woven
with care,
intention strong and true,
quiet introspection,
nurturing souls finding truth.
A bond that’s never broken,
a space where divine can shine,
carry the lineage forward,
blessings ripple over time.
Now the wind becomes your whisper,
the ocean sings your name,
the stars reflect your spirit’s fire,
your light — an endless flame.
Through the hands of those you’ve guided,
through the hearts your teaching stirred,
your torch burns on in others,
your essence lives in word.
Rest now, gentle Kahuna
Your voyage home begun
May spirit lift you softly,
Into the great returning sun.
Your spirit sails on the currents,
Where ancestors softly hum,
And the rhythm of your healing
Echoes on the beat of the aloha drum.
