New medical service announced for the Iluka community! 🩺🎉

Congratulations to Dr Anthony Anachuna and Stella Anachuna on turning their vision into reality with the opening of a new medical practice in Iluka.

This much-needed service will bring essential healthcare access to a community that has been without a local medical facility for almost 3 years. Dr Anachuna and his wife, who currently run O Plus Health Medical Clinic in Grafton are excited to deliver the practice to new and existing patients, some who currently travel to Grafton to receive care.

The practice will provide patients with access to a doctor and nurse, with plans to expand services in response to community needs. Future offerings may include allied health professionals such as a cardiologist, physiotherapist, dietitian, and pathology services, all contributing to a multidisciplinary approach to patient care.

You're invited to a community Meet and Greet with Dr Anachuna:

📅 Saturday 2 August
🕛 12:00 – 2:00 pm
📍 Iluka Bowls Club

Enjoy food and refreshments, proudly supported by Healthy North Coast and the wonderful Iluka Bowls Club ladies.

We look forward to seeing you there!

The best protection against whooping cough is vaccination, which prevents most cases of serious illness, and reduces the spread in the community.

If you’re expecting a new baby in the family, read on. Whooping cough is serious, and on the rise.

What is whooping cough?

Whooping cough (also called pertussis) is a serious and highly contagious respiratory illness affecting the chest. The initial symptoms of whooping cough resemble other cold and flu-like symptoms such as cough, runny nose, sneezing, and fever.

The cough usually gets worse and can cause uncontrollable coughing, creating a “whooping” sound. It can last for many weeks and be worse at night. Whooping cough can be life threatening for babies and infants.

Speak to your GP or midwife about vaccination to keep you and your baby safe.

Children can drown quickly and silently. It can happen in 20 seconds, and just a few centimetres of water. Sometimes adults are nearby but distracted.

Keep kids safe this summer:
- always supervise children around water
- designate a “Water Watcher” adult and take turns
- if you have a pool, make sure there is a fence around it and keep the gate closed
- empty any water from inflatable pools or buckets
- teach water awareness by spending time in the water with your child
- learn how to resuscitate (CPR) in case of emergency.

In an emergency, call Triple Zero (000) immediately.
