At Geelong Disability Services, our approach has always been person-centred and that starts with our founders.

Donna has lived with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) for over 30 years. Ray was the primary carer for his father-in-law who lived with Motor Neuron Disease (MND), and together they have supported their daughter through her mental health journey.

Because of these experiences, GDS was truly created from the experiences of, by, and for people living with disability.

We are proudly a peer-led organisation, with many of our staff having lived experience with disability themselves or through supporting family members. This helps us keep people at the centre of everything we do and deliver supports that are understanding, practical, and genuinely caring.

It’s this approach that participants recognise and value and why so many people choose Geelong Disability Services as their provider of choice.

Support work isn’t just about tasks. It’s about presence. Izzy and Sam share what they love doing together, but the real magic isn’t in the activity.

It’s in showing up.
It’s in listening.
It’s in being fully there.

That’s what real support looks like. If you or someone you care about is looking for support that feels human, not clinical, we’d love to chat!

You might have heard the term “registered provider”, but what does it actually mean?

A registered NDIS provider has been assessed and approved to meet national quality and safety standards.

✅ It means there are safeguards in place.
✅ It means there is oversight.
✅ It means there are clear systems protecting your funding.

When it comes to plan management, trust and accountability matter. Have questions? Send us a message, we’re here to make it clear.

Looking for a relaxed, creative space to connect and unwind?

Every second Thursday, we host our much-loved Crochet Group. A fun, welcoming hang led by our wonderful support worker, Isabelle.

It’s not just about stitches and yarn (although we love that part too 😉). It’s about laughter, conversation, learning something new, and being part of a supportive community.

Whether you're a complete beginner or already confident with a hook, everyone is welcome!

Why crochet is actually amazing 🧵

✨ Calms the mind – The repetitive motion of stitching can be incredibly soothing and grounding.
✨ Builds confidence – Watching something grow from a simple piece of yarn into a finished creation is such a boost.
✨ Improves focus and fine motor skills – Great for coordination and concentration.
✨ Encourages connection – Crochet circles have always been about storytelling, friendship, and shared creativity.
✨ Creates something tangible – There’s something powerful about making something with your own hands.

And honestly? It’s just really fun.

If you’d like to join our next Crochet Group, reach out to the team, we’d love to see you there! 🧶💛

MEET RAD! 😎

A new support worker joining us here at Geelong Disability Services (and we couldn't be more excited!)

"Hi, I’m Rad (my middle name is Radford). I’m originally from New Zealand and moved to Australia in 2000 for better work opportunities. I spent many years working in construction and utilities, first operating machinery and later in health and safety roles. Over time, I was ready for a change and wanted to try something more people-focused.

I completed my Individual Support Worker Certificate so I could build the skills needed to support participants in their day-to-day lives and personal interests. I’m easy-going and practical, and I like a laugh.
I enjoy being hands-on and creative. I like doing art, including silk screens, and enjoy metal and woodwork.

I’ve built several cars and work on engines and boats, and I have a workshop at home where I can work on projects. I also enjoy fishing and cooking – gnocchi, sauces and salads, especially when I can cook for others."

We love welcoming support workers who bring real life experience, practical skills, and genuine personality to our team and Rad brings all of that and more!

If you or someone you support would connect well with Rad’s hands on, creative, practical style, now is the perfect time to reach out.

This isn’t just a statement on a wall, it’s how we operate every day.

For us, enriching lives means taking the time to listen, showing up consistently, and delivering support with real respect and care.

We’re proud of our team. Cheerful, capable, and genuinely committed to doing good work well. Because high level service should still feel human

This is what guides everything we do.

We want our clients to genuinely look forward to their support shifts, not just because something is scheduled, but because they feel comfortable, understood, and supported.

Support should feel positive. It should feel safe. It should feel like someone is in your corner.

That’s the standard we hold ourselves to every day at GDS.
