St John of God Accord

St John of God Accord For over 65 years, St John of God Accord has worked to make a difference in the lives of people with intellectual disabilities.

We are a values-based organisation that puts you, your goals and aspirations at the centre of what we do. Our caregivers are professional and skilled and they take responsibility for all their interactions and relationships. You can access our offerings throughout all metropolitan regions of Melbourne - North, East, South, and West. We are a not-for-profit organisation, established in 1953 as a provider of intellectual disability support. We merged with our parent organisation St John of God Health Care in 2007.

At St John of God Accord, support isn’t about fitting someone into a service. It starts with their voices when they tell us about their goals, their hopes, their future. Through a holistic, co-designed approach, we bring together the individual, the client's family, their support network, and professionals to build a plan that grows with them. We make sure their voice is front and centre, loud and clear.

It’s advocacy, guidance, and care woven together — helping people live independently, confidently, and on their own terms. Because here, the person always comes first.

"... we are continuously thinking about how to improve Person Centred Active Support (PCAS), which ultimately leads to better outcomes and quality of life for our clients"

Quality isn’t just something we talk about — it’s something we actively look for, reflect on, and improve every day at Accord.

In this video, Stephanie — our Practice Lead and Client Inclusion Manager, walks you through how we observe practice quality across our services. It’s about paying attention to the everyday moments that shape a client’s experience. By using observation and feedback tools, we make sure support stays person-centred, respectful and aligned with what clients want and need.

Our support isn't static — it grows, adapts and improves, just like the people at the heart of it.

Humans of Glenroy — Caregiver Spotlight: Shaun
Episode 4 🎥

Meet Shaun — one of the guiding forces at Glenroy Community Campus.
Shaun is known for his easy humour, his bright smile, and the calm way he supports people to keep trying, even when things don’t come easily. With over 10 years in disability support, he brings patience and consistency that helps others believe in themselves.
For Shaun, good support isn’t about taking over. It’s about creating the right environment — offering guidance when it’s needed, encouragement when it matters, and space when it’s time.

His goal is simple: to sit back and watch clients lead their ways. Because when that happens, it means trust has grown, confidence has taken root, and it means people are taking charge of their own journey.

This is Episode 4 of Humans of Glenroy.

If you’ve been following our stories, you’ll recognise our karaoke superstar James — and now he’s bringing the same energy to the basketball court! 🏀
True to his weekly ritual, James kicked off with a Slurpee stop at 7-Eleven and headed to All Abilities Basketball at Doncaster where he confidently covered his own admission fee. On the court, James was unstoppable, sinking 8 baskets and showing his great sportsmanship.

After the game, he grabbed a snack as a treat and sang along to Christmas tunes on the way home — bringing the same joy and energy he shares at karaoke night into every part of his day.

With his support worker Toby alongside, James had the reassurance he needed while being free to lead the experience and enjoy every moment his way.

Big fan of basketballs or sport lovers? We’ll be there to help you enjoy it at your pace!
