St John of God Accord

St John of God Accord For over 65 years, St John of God Accord has worked to make a difference in the lives of people with intellectual disabilities.

We are a values-based organisation that puts you, your goals and aspirations at the centre of what we do. Our caregivers are professional and skilled and they take responsibility for all their interactions and relationships. You can access our offerings throughout all metropolitan regions of Melbourne - North, East, South, and West. We are a not-for-profit organisation, established in 1953 as a provider of intellectual disability support. We merged with our parent organisation St John of God Health Care in 2007.

Today we observe Good Friday, a day of deep significance in the Christian calendar. For St John of God Accord, it is a meaningful reminder of our calling to continue the healing mission of Jesus. As we take time to reflect, may we recognise the opportunities in every moment to bring healing and hope to those in our care and to one another.

Following our Book Building workshop at Greensborough Campus, the Art Group were super excited to visit the Ivanhoe Library and Cultural Hub to see their artworks on display in The World We Can Build exhibition. It’s one thing to create art in a workshop, but seeing their very own creations sitting there among hundreds of other creations was such an uplifting feeling for the participants. The book buildings created a city that was full of stories, diversity, community and connection.

Curated by artist , the group were given an added surprised to find that the city included LEGO®, which was built by Annie Rozan from LEGO® Masters Australia, her amazing creations took the city an extra magical place.

As we walked through the exhibition, it was wonderful to see the personality of each artist shine through, from one's love for music and The Beatles, to pride in being a part of a Rock Band, to celebration of family, church, or Greek heritage. It was impossible not to smile at how creativity finds its way into even the smallest details.

A heartfelt thanks to Yarra Ivanhoe Library and Cultural Hub for giving our Art Group the wonderful opportunity to showcase what truly brings joy to their hearts in "a world where everybody feels like they belong" and are a part of this beautiful community celebration!

Here are two simple strategies our PBS practitioners use every day which can be especially helpful during transitions, unexpected changes, or moments that feel overwhelming.

Looking for a lovely housemate to join in a Zen, beachside home in Altona 🌊

Our Altona home is shared by two ladies in their early 60s who take pride in their space and enjoy a calm, respectful lifestyle. They’re looking to welcome another woman who values a clean, peaceful home with routines and enjoys a balance of personal time and shared moments.

Life here is about the little things — keeping it tidy together, relaxing with favourite medical shows, batch cooking as quality time or heading out for walks, drives, and fresh air by Altona beach and green spaces nearby.

What matters most in this home is respect, kindness, routine, and personal space — creating an environment where everyone feels comfortable, heard, and at home.

Meet Durga!

Durga has recently joined our Speech Pathology team at St John of God Accord!

Durga has spent years learning and training in this field, and she’s excited to put that knowledge into practice—supporting people in ways that really make a difference in their everyday lives. She’s passionate about helping people with Dysphagia and supporting communication through AAC, always aiming to help individuals feel confident, understood, and comfortable expressing themselves.

What Durga loves most about joining Accord is being part of a team that values kindness, collaboration, and genuinely supporting people holistically.

You’ll find Durga working across the northern suburbs—including Craigieburn, South Morang, and Epping—on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.

We’re so happy to have you on board, Durga!

Our Group Programs came together to celebrate St John of God Day last week and it was a day filled with joy, dancing and delicious treats. Seeing everyone come together, sharing a meal, hitting the dance floor and simply enjoying each other’s company made the celebration truly special.

Speical thanks and congrats to Cate and the Glenroy team who organised such a fun and wonderful event! 🥳

Eating, drinking and swallowing difficulties — also called dysphagia — can make mealtimes challenging. Some people may have trouble swallowing certain foods or liquids, or may find swallowing difficult altogether. In recognition of Swallowing Awareness Day, our speech and language therapists have put together 5 tips to help make mealtimes safer and more comfortable.

Need personalised guidance? Our team can assess and recommend strategies tailored for you or your loved ones.

Save this for later or share it with someone who might find it helpful 💭
