St John of God Accord For over 65 years, St John of God Accord has worked to make a difference in the lives of people with intellectual disabilities.

We are a values-based organisation that puts you, your goals and aspirations at the centre of what we do. Our caregivers are professional and skilled and they take responsibility for all their interactions and relationships. You can access our offerings throughout all metropolitan regions of Melbourne - North, East, South, and West. We are a not-for-profit organisation, established in 1953 as a pr

Congratulations to Bayley Mifsud on her collaboration with the AFL for the Sir Doug Nicholls Round, designing these iconic Sherrin footballs and a mural at Marvel Stadium. We are very excited to be welcoming Bayley to our Greensborough campus next week, where she'll be creating a live artwork with our clients and caregivers as part of our National Reconciliation Week event.

Happy Mothers Day to all the amazing mothers in our Accord community!

Mothers of clients, clients who are mothers, mothers who are caregivers, grandmothers, stepmothers, godmothers and all the other kinds.

We want to say a huge THANK YOU to all the mothers who make our clients' goals possible.

We send heartfelt thoughts to anyone missing their mum today, or finding today challenging for other reasons.

It's a joy to share these very special messages of thanks 🧡

Alper has been doing incredible work during his 1:1 supports, building his skills to use public transport independently.

Starting with learning routes and how to navigate stations, he’s now developing the ability to gather important travel information — like listening for announcements and checking when the next train is arriving.

He also knows how to wait safely, stay aware of his surroundings, and is moving through the community with more confidence each time he goes out. Big shout out to Alper 🙌

If learning to use public transport independently, like Alper, is one of your NDIS goals, now is a great time to start travel training — especially with public transport currently FREE across Victoria until the end of May.

We can support you through:
🤝 1:1, 2:1 or group supports tailored to what you want to learn and where you want to go
🤝 Our Ready for Life short-term respite program, including transport training at Macleod or Frankston
🤝 Our Allied Health team, who can provide assessments to help secure the right travel training supports in your plan

If this is something you’re working towards, feel free to reach out for more information.

When it comes to Short-Term Respite (STR), there are a lot of misconceptions and that's completely understandable. For many families, STR can feel unfamiliar, overwhelming, or even a little emotional at first. Questions like "Is this really for us? or "Will my loved one be okay?" are very common.

The truth is, STR is about so much more than simply taking a break. It can provide opportunities for participants to build confidence, develop independence, and enjoy new experiences with new friends, while also giving families valuable time to rest and recharge.

If you've ever felt unsure about respite, you're certainly not alone. Swipe through as we unpack five of the most common myths about STR and the facts every family should know.
