Our Story
Exercise classes with a women's health physio are a great way to safely improve/maintain your "core" strength, flexibility and fitness during pregnancy, as well as after the birth of your baby... with the added benefit of helping you to get back into shape postnatally.
All of our classes are conducted by postgrad-qualified women's health physiotherapists who have a passion for working with women during pregnancy, after the birth of your baby.. and beyond... to help your body stay strong and also recover, during this unique time of life. We have a special interest in "pelvic floor safe" exercise as well as muscle (motor) development in young babies.
We offer postnatal hydrotherapy classes on Tuesdays at Ellenbrook, and Thursdays at Maida Vale. These mums & bubs pool classes involve a 25min session with your baby in the water (32 degrees heated pool), where we introduce your baby to water in a lovely, gentle music-based way, with different movements during each song to promote healthy muscle development in your baby; but most of all, this is an enjoyable, special time for mum and baby together in the water. This is followed by an exercise session for mums only, lasting about 45mins and targeting all of those muscles and joints that have altered slightly during pregnancy, childbirth and the postnatal period; babies are strapped into their prams during the exercise session (hopefully for a sleep!) or feel free to bring grandparents or dads along to babysit!! There is time to feed your baby between the two sessions.
In 2018 we have teamed up with FitRight who are providing local pregnancy and postnatal exercise classes with an experienced physiotherapist. At Hillview Physiotherapy we are able to provide assessments prior to commencing your FitRight class, and also expert advice and management programs to tailor your exercise during this unique time of life.
At Hillview Physiotherapy we also provide fitball-based exercise classes for men and women, with a focus on pelvic health, strengthening (from the inside out!) and flexibility.. we believe that just because we are ageing, doesn’t mean we need to lose ability - in our classes we expect to find new abilities to move, to strengthen and to heal.
