🎈 Important Update: New Laws in NSW About Helium Balloon Releases

At Lightfoot Funerals, we know how meaningful memorials and celebrations of life can be. Traditionally, many people have chosen to release helium-filled balloons as part of a farewell or tribute. However, the NSW Government has introduced changes to reduce environmental harm and plastic pollution — including a ban on releasing lighter-than-air helium balloons. This is part of the state’s broader effort to phase out single-use plastics and harmful chemicals.

Under these changes, releasing lighter-than-air balloons (helium balloons) into the sky is now prohibited, as they contribute to litter and can seriously harm wildlife and waterways. The ban aligns with other environmental protections and encourages more sustainable alternatives.
