👋 Get to know Chris Warne
Chris Warne is the principal physiotherapist at Lake Gwelup Physiotherapy, which he established in 2018 to provide honest, accessible and evidence-informed physiotherapy care to the Gwelup community and Perth’s northern suburbs.

Chris has more than a decade of private practice experience supporting patients with a wide range of musculoskeletal and rehabilitation needs.

Returning to exercise after injury or surgery isn’t always straightforward. With the right guidance, structured rehabilitation can help rebuild strength, improve mobility and support a safe return to everyday activities.

At Lake Gwelup Physiotherapy, all rehabilitation programs begin with a comprehensive in-clinic physiotherapy assessment to ensure exercises are appropriate, safe and aligned with your recovery goals.

Dry needling is one of the tools we may use in physiotherapy to help reduce or modulate muscle pain and increased muscle tone as part of a broader rehabilitation program.

It is often most helpful for people who have previously responded well to dry needling and may assist with short-term pain relief and reduced muscle sensitivity, particularly when combined with other hands-on physiotherapy, clear advice, and individually tailored exercise programs - rather than being used as a stand-alone treatment

Jaw pain, clicking, or stiffness when you eat or talk?

It might be coming from your temporomandibular joint (TMJ) — the small but powerful joint that connects your jawbone to your skull, just in front of the ear.

When this joint — or the surrounding muscles — become irritated or overloaded, it can lead to Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMD).

🦷 Common TMD Symptoms

• Jaw pain or tenderness around the ear, face, or temple
• Clicking, popping, or grating noises when opening or chewing
• Jaw stiffness or locking (open or closed)
• Headaches, neck pain, or ear discomfort
• Difficulty chewing or feeling like your bite is “off”

⚙️ Why Does It Happen?

TMJ issues are usually multifactorial, meaning several factors can contribute:
• Jaw muscle overuse — clenching, grinding (bruxism), or chewing gum, pens, nail biting and chewing hard foods
• Stress and tension — leading to tight jaw and neck muscles
• Posture — forward head posture can overload the jaw
• Previous injury — trauma to the jaw, face, or neck
• Joint changes — such as arthritis or disc displacement
