Arlie’s Shed Weekly Update!
We have had another great week at Arlie's Shed, continuing to set up more of our space as we receive new shirts and some new signs for our building. A huge thank you to everyone on our team, support staff, volunteers and participants alike, for all the hard work you’re putting in to help us get our new place sorted. Your efforts truly make a difference in our community.
Music
Our musical energy was high this week with Karaoke on Tuesday and Wednesday, allowing everyone to showcase their favorite songs and have a great time together. Music continues to be a fantastic way to foster community spirit at Arlie’s Shed.
Gardening
In gardening, we took excellent care of our veggie patch, picking fresh ingredients for our cooking program. We also planted and propagated some succulents to add diversity to our garden. To improve our gardening area, we set up new shelves and made more dump runs, keeping our space organised and efficient.
Woodworking
Woodworking has made significant progress as we put together the rest of the new machinery and tools, setting up the workshop for full operation. Participants worked hard on finishing chopping boards for the Op Shop by creating and applying board wax. There were also solo projects underway, including coasters, planter boxes and phone stands that showcased individual creativity.
Arts, Crafts, and Learning
In our arts, crafts and learning sessions, we continued our maths and literacy work program run by one of our favourite participants, diving into projects like alphabet collages and fairy gardens. Participants engaged in a variety of solo projects, finishing dioramas, creating dream catchers and enjoying coloring and painting. There was also ample opportunity for fun with games like Uno and pool, fostering collaboration and friendly competition.
Thursday Social
This week’s Thursday social outing took us to Part 2 of Australia Zoo, where we were thrilled to see crocodiles and a variety of amazing animals. The adventure was a fantastic experience for everyone, deepening our connection with nature and wildlife.
Cooking
In the kitchen, we whipped up some delicious homemade meals, including mini quiches made with fresh ingredients from our garden, gourmet sandwiches and a healthy BBQ. Participants focused on developing their skills in list-making, shopping for ingredients, money handling and food prep. It’s always rewarding to taste the fruits of our labor!
Op Shop & Supports in Employment
Supports in Employment this week, we completed the cleaning of our fleet of vans and cars, along with our vehicle checklist. The team in the Op Shop worked diligently on money handling, sorting donations and general cleaning as we prepared racks for the incoming pre-Gympie Muster crowds.
Friday Fun Day
We wrapped up the week with our usual programs in the morning, then headed to Gunabul for a fun-filled time at the golf driving range and lawn games. After a delicious pizza lunch, we went to Gympie Ten Pin to participate in the all-abilities bowling league. The day concluded with our Friday night social, where we enjoyed dinner and dancing to a live band at Tin Can Bay. It was an unforgettable way to end an exciting week!
Thank you for being an integral part of our Arlie’s Shed family! Your support and enthusiasm contribute to the vibrant community we share. We look forward to bringing you more updates and adventures in the weeks to come!
Warm regards,
The Arlie’s Shed Team
