Gympie Healthy Play

Gympie Healthy Play Helping Families Support Children The Healthy Play Project is supported by funding from the Australian Government through the PHN Program. Watch this space grow!

Healthy Play is facilitated by childcare professionals offering parents support with their children 0 - 5, and or home schooled children, to navigate Primary Health Care Services and any other informal supports required. Healthy Play will do this by providing the community with mobile playdates/clinics offering non clinical and clinical pre screenings at a variety of settings and locations, and visiting existing activities such as local shopping centres, playgroups, schools, Indigenous spaces, parks, family fun days and places requested by groups of parents. The aim of these sessions and appearances is to provide families with easy access to our program and get that support for yourself or your child. There is no cost associated with this program to parents/families. Healthy Play staff have extensive experience supporting parents/families/children and very much look forward to meeting with you. You can contact 0497 159 254 for child related enquires and/or screenings and information, by phoning or texting, or by email projects@gcp.org.au. For parenting and family wellbeing enquires, please contact our Family Support Worker on 0413 365 689 or by email hp@gcp.org.au

Cyclones and storms can be scary for people of all ages but for babies and young children ‘big feelings’ of fear and confusion can be overwhelming.

🌪 Council Update - Tropical Cyclone Alfred - 12:00pm 5 March, 2025

TC Alfred is now tracking west towards the SEQ Coast and is expected to make landfall between Maroochydore and Coolangatta early Friday morning.

⚠️The cyclone watch for our region has been cancelled, however a severe weather warning for damaging winds, hazardous surf, and heavy rainfall is in place for coastal areas, and the broader Gympie region.

While we have been spared the worst of TC Alfred's impacts, our region will still experience severe weather and heavy rainfall over coming days, so we ask residents to be prepared. How? See here: https://www.gympie.qld.gov.au/summersafety

♻️ Our waste management facilities and rubbish collection services are operating as normal however, we are keeping a close eye on the conditions and will keep the community updated over coming days.

🏊‍♀️ As a precaution, the Gympie Aquatic Recreation Centre, Kandanga Pool, Goomeri Pool, and Tin Can Bay Pool will be CLOSED tomorrow Thursday 6 March 2025, and will reopen when deemed safe. Contact the pools directly for more information.

🌱 The two w**d management workshops scheduled for this Friday and Saturday have been cancelled.

It's important to keep informed.

Visit Council’s Disaster Dashboard for updates - https://disaster.gympie.qld.gov.au/

Tune in to ABC Wide Bay or Sunshine Coast for emergency broadcasts.

Check Energex or Ergon for power outage information - https://www.energex.com.au/ / https://www.ergon.com.au/

Visit the Bureau of Meteorology for weather updates - http://www.bom.gov.au/qld/warnings/

We remind residents that there's no need to panic buy. Check on your neighbours, keep informed, and keep safe 🙏

What do you see when a child is at play? Running, building, creating, pretending—these are the moments that catch our eye. But just beneath the surface, something much deeper is happening.

Play is where children develop adaptability, confidence, and problem-solving skills. It’s where they learn to navigate risk, build friendships, and trust their own ideas. It’s where their brains and bodies work together, shaping the skills they’ll carry for life.

The next time you watch a child play, remember—what’s visible is just the tip of the iceberg. There is so much happening underneath!
