Whatโ€™s Really Happening in the Sauna, Minute by Minute

Your body isnโ€™t just sweating. Itโ€™s experiencing controlled heat stress that activates powerful biological responses, from cardiovascular shifts to cellular repair.

In the first few minutes, your brain detects heat and signals your heart to speed up. Blood vessels expand, circulation improves, and your core temp starts to rise.

By minute four, skin blood flow increases and sweat begins. You shift into a parasympathetic state and endorphins kick in.

Around the 10-minute mark, heat shock proteins activate. These help repair damaged cells, reduce inflammation, and support mitochondria, which are key for energy and longevity.

Why 20 Minutes in the Sauna Lowers Cortisol

Yesterday I had an appointment with an incredible naturopath, Cait, .thenaturopath located above in the space, so I could get on top of a lingering cough thatโ€™s been hanging around since I was sick about a month ago. But it wasnโ€™t just about the cough โ€” it was about checking in on a few little things that I could feel were impacting my performance and overall well-being.

It really got me thinking about how often we accept mediocre as normal โ€” whether itโ€™s in our training, our nutrition, our health, or even our sleep. We chase average because itโ€™s common. We put up with feeling โ€˜okayโ€™ because we think thatโ€™s all there is.

But the truth is: ๐”‚๐“ธ๐“พ ๐“ช๐“ป๐“ฎ ๐“ฌ๐“ช๐“น๐“ช๐“ซ๐“ต๐“ฎ ๐“ธ๐“ฏ ๐“ผ๐“ธ ๐“ถ๐“พ๐“ฌ๐“ฑ ๐“ถ๐“ธ๐“ป๐“ฎ.

When we stop accepting mediocre, we unlock an entirely new level of health, energy, and potential that most people donโ€™t even realize they have access to.

Iโ€™m so grateful that over the past couple of years, I found an amazing, holistic doctor who doesnโ€™t just look at blood test results and say, โ€œYep, youโ€™re within the normal range.โ€ He chases ๐“ธ๐“น๐“ฝ๐“ฒ๐“ถ๐“ช๐“ต. And because of that approach, Iโ€™m proud to say my bloodwork consistently reflects a body performing at its best โ€” not just scraping through the minimums.

The appointment with Cait yesterday was another layer of that journey. She didnโ€™t just look at whatโ€™s happening ๐“ป๐“ฒ๐“ฐ๐“ฑ๐“ฝ ๐“ท๐“ธ๐”€ โ€” she looked at the bigger picture. We talked about immediate support, but we also laid out a path toward long-term improvements and peak performance.
