Here's a little quiz?
Can you guess the answer? I am a delicious dessert claimed as an Australian icon, I am low in fat until I am covered with cream. I was created by a miner turned caterer in Western Australia in 1934 and I am named after a ballerina.
What dessert is this?

Im sure you have all guessed this one!

Take care and keep safe.

Hello and Happy New Year keep safe and well to you all.

Here’s a quick quiz. Can you guess the answer?
What food am I?
Low in fat and a good source of protein, yet people often believe I’m high in fat. Found in the sea, you can curry me, add me to pasta dishes, eat me in salads, sandwiches or even throw me on the barbie. Answer to follow....

Here’s a quick quiz. Can you guess the answer? This food was being eaten in the 16th century across Europe due to early explorers discovering the food. It is traditionally eaten at celebrations, in particular Christmas and Thanksgiving. Unlike most foods included in celebrations this food contains only 1% fat. A rich source of protein this food also contains some iron and zinc. Many of you may even think of cooking this food for Christmas this year. What food is this? (Answer yet to come!)

We would like to thank you for your support during this turbulent year and wish you a very healthy and safe Christmas. We look forward to seeing you in the New Year.

Great guesses everyone! Thanks for your replies :)

Macadamia nuts are a wonderful snack (answer to the quiz), as is any nut. Nuts contain a fat that has been shown to reduce the impact of heart disease. A small handful of nuts as an occasional snack is so much better that a muesli bar or a packet of chips. People regularly ask me of simple ways to make snacks interesting. Try my delicious dessert/snack, which I have modified from the traditional Cranachan recipe to include macadamia nuts. When I lived in Scotland I couldn’t stop eating this wonderful dessert, I think I had found heaven! Remember to slow down, take your time and be aware of what you are eating, you are meant to enjoy the experience! In the case of the recipe below people have been eating the food for a good hundred years. I am sure when this recipe was first created families would have sat down together and savoured this decadent experience. Perhaps you can too.

The Queensland Cranachan
(adapted from Favourite Scottish Recipes, Traditional Caledonian Fare, by Johanna Mathie)
(Serves 2)
200 mL Greek yoghurt
100 mL light cream
2tbsp honey
3 tbsp whisky (optional)
1/2 cup of oats
¼ cup chopped macadamia nuts
1 cup of your favourite chopped fruit (frozen berries are great)

Mix the oats and macadamia nuts together. Toast the oats and nuts under a grill until golden. Whip the cream, honey and whisky (if you wish) into a bowl. Fold in the yoghurt. Place ¼ cup of chopped fruit into the bottom of each individual serving bowls. Pour the yoghurt mixture over the top. Chill for 1-2 hours. Sprinkle the remaining fruit over the top of the yoghurt mixture and then sprinkle the oats and nuts mixture over the top. Delicious!

What food am I?
Here’s a quick quiz. Can you guess the answer? I am a wonderful source of monounsaturated fats and fibre. I am the only native Australian food to be commercially cultivated. I am native to the coastal rainforests of Queensland where I was consumed by the Aborigines of the region. I can be eaten raw, added to biscuits, cakes, sweets and even added to chocolate. What food am I?

Look out for the next post to see the answer or let us know what you think the food is!
