In Bowen therapy, "waits" (or pauses) are intentional breaks between sets of moves. These waits are a crucial part of the treatment and serve several key purposes:
1. Allow the body to respond: Bowen moves stimulate the nervous system and fascia. The pauses give the body time to process this input and start its natural healing response.
2. Prevent overstimulation: Too much input can overwhelm the nervous system. Waits help avoid this, keeping the treatment gentle but effective.
3. Encourage deeper integration: The therapy works on multiple levels—muscular, fascial, and energetic. The pauses support integration across these systems.
4. Respect the body’s rhythm: Bowen respects the body’s innate intelligence. The waits align with the idea that healing happens best when we don't rush or force it.
So, while they might seem like "nothing is happening," the waits are when a lot of the magic of Bowen therapy actually occurs.
