Daryl currently works as a General Practitioner at Henry St Medical Centre and as was employed as the admitting General Practitioner employed by Gympie Private Hospital for private admissions from outlying areas of the region for twelve years, until some months after becoming a councillor. His past employment has included work in the retail sector, in education as a Physics and Chemistry teacher in Secondary Schools including Gympie High, Beaudesert High, Murgon High, as a music teacher in Primary Schools including Gympie West, Gympie East, One Mile, Imbil, Kandanga, Kandanga Ck, Woolooga, Theebine, Glenwood, Gunalda and as a doctor at Redcliffe and Gympie General Hospitals. He was awarded the Australian Cotton Industry scholarship for Medicine as a medical student in 2000. Daryl was born in Gympie and his family lived in the Mary Valley since 1873. His wife Dr Malika Loeckx has lived in Gympie since 2005 when Daryl completed his medical degree and internship. His Wife, Malika is also a General Practitioner working in Gympie. They are very proud of their four children: Reuben and Indigo who are both studying at UQ and Fynn who is in grade 2 and Zander (4¾). Daryl has had an interest in local government since his teens when his mother, Joan, was the Mayor of the final Gympie City Council and his Aunt, Jean, was the Widgee Shire Councillor for the Mary Valley. Despite his qualifications allowing him to live and work anywhere in the world, he has consistently and repeatedly returned to Gympie as his chosen location.
