The Older Adult Research Team at Macquarie University Lifespan Health and Wellbeing Centre need our help and in particular, for people of Chinese descent either with Dementia or caring for someone with Dementia. NOTE: photos in commens section of post.

The request goes on to say:

Our researchers are passionate about developing effective treatment strategies to better support emotional and cognitive health in older adulthood.

We are currently exploring the cultural and psychological factors that may cause and
maintain social isolation and loneliness among English-speaking and Chinese-speaking family caregivers of people with dementia in Australia. We would like to invite family caregivers of people with dementia to participate in a two-time-point survey study. We are targeting to finish the recruitment by 31st March 2026.

I would be grateful if you could please share the following information with your network:

The SOLACE (Social Isolation, Loneliness, and Cultural Experiences) Project – Survey Study

Researchers at Macquarie University are studying the caregiving, social experiences, and wellbeing among English-speaking and Chinese-speaking family caregivers of people with dementia in Australia.

We sincerely invite carers who meet the following criteria to participate in this survey study:
• Aged 18 years or above
• Have been providing care to a family member with dementia for at least 6 months
• Use English or Chinese for daily communication
• Come from an English-speaking or Chinese-speaking background

Eligible participants will complete two surveys, approximately 6 months apart. Each survey will take about 25-40 minutes to complete. Surveys can be completed online, via telephone, in person, or on paper. After completing both surveys, each participant will receive a $20 gift voucher.

Your participation will help us better understand the challenges of social isolation and loneliness faced by dementia carers and support the development of more tailored services and interventions for this community.

Thank you to everyone who attended the Gympie Dementia Friendly Alliance community workshop that was held this week at Gunabul Homestead.

A special thank you to Kim Whitfield from Nightingale Law for her discussion around the Dementia journey many face, and her own personal experience caring for a loved one with Dementia and the impact it had on her and her family. This is the second consecutive year that Kim has generously donated her time pro bono to this cause.

Thanks to Uni SC Gympie and Hayley and Amanda for their work behind the scenes and for the overview of Hayley’s current research around Dementia.

A shoutout to Fiona Keable from The Real Body Movement for her support throughout the week and for her generous donation on behalf of the TRBM family, that paid for afternoon tea for the community workshop.

Thanks to Kylie from RangeCare for organising the Dementia themed cupcakes that everyone enjoyed at both events this week.

We’d also like to thank Penny and Raelene for their ongoing drive behind the local Carers Support group and to Marguerite Moore for her guidance and encouragement in this space in general. Thanks to Gary and his wife for blessing us with their story also at the workshop.

….but most of all thank you to all of the families, loved ones and carers that battle Dementia on a daily basis to support someone they love and care for.

Finally a last minute thank you to Bravo Disability Support Network Inc for granting Cindy Buchan the time and freedom to bring this weeks events together and to People with Disability Australia for allowing Sean Connelly to coordinate the events and provide ongoing support to the Dementia Alliance.

Thanks to Gympie The real treasure is the town for coming along on our Dementia Walk today.

It was a great turnout, and it was good to show our collective support for people diagnosed with Dementia and their families and carers.

Some of the people that joined us today, had also lost someone to Dementia and just wanted to honour their memory ❤️‍🩹
