It is not a nice topic, but let’s talk about Elder Abuse.
Elder Abuse is more prevalent in our communities than you could ever imagine, and it is a responsibility of all who witness it, to report it.
People with Dementia are, unfortunately, so much more vulnerable due to their cognitive functional decline and it takes us - as a community, spouse, family member, GP, Allied Health person etc, to report suspected or confirmed Elder Abuse.
There are numerous forms of Elder Abuse, which are shown in the below link. Please educate yourself, your family & your coworkers on the signs of Elder Abuse and how to report it.
The National Elder Abuse hotline number is 1800 353 374.
Never be afraid to stand up and be the voice for someone who can no longer do it for themselves. You could be the reason someone gets the help and care they so desperately need and deserve.
Elder abuse can be emotional or psychological, physical, financial, social or sexual. Often more than one type of abuse can occur.
