“Why do we train barefoot?”

A new member asked, “Why do we train barefoot?” Great question, because it’s about way more than just ditching shoes!

Most shoes squish our toes together, making our feet weak and leading to issues like bunions and foot pain. When we allow our toes to spread and “feel” the ground, we’re letting them do what they’re meant to—support our body’s movement with a strong, stable base.

Here’s why it matters:

1. Balance & Proprioception
Barefoot training lets our feet feel the ground, helping balance and stability. This feedback (proprioception) is key to movement quality.
2. Strength & Flexibility
Weak feet need strengthening, not just support. Like any muscle, feet need training to avoid “atrophy” (muscle loss) and stay mobile and strong.
3. Whole-Body Connection
Your feet connect to so many different muscle groups in the body. The fascia on the sole of the foot travels all the way up the back of your body to your forehead. Tightness in your feet can cause issues up through your calves, hamstrings—even headaches!

Getting Started
Don’t go fully barefoot right away. Start slow, and the gym is a great place to begin. By building up foot strength, we’ll help your body move and feel better!

Where in your body are you feeling pain?

The goal of a Blissful Touch treatment is to find any residual tension or blockage in the body and get rid of it. It is encouraged to breathe deeply into your belly during the treatment and to encourage the release of any repressed emotions.
