Great message/article from my colleague Kathleen Lisson.
Why would you pay all those thousands of dollars for surgery, go through all that pain (financially, emotionally, spiritually, physically) and then not have any MLD to assist with oedema, bruising, recovery from anaesthetic. Probably, because you are not informed of the importance of it by your surgical team!
So many people, women particularly, book their surgery and nobody tells them that they should be getting MLD (by a qualified accredited Decongestive Lymphatic Therapist) for sometime after their surgery. I generally like to see people pre-op - very close to their op date - for an MLD which includes the Deep Oscillation Therapy (softens fat for lipoedema liposuction, making it a little easier with a better recovery). Then we make 30 min follow up appts around our schedules.
There is more to MLD than gentle touch - and finding a qualified therapist will make all the difference!
You can Google the article which explains the different stages - Comparison of short-stretch bandage and long-stretch bandage for post-traumatic hand edema
