There’s a saying used to describe empathy - to walk a mile in their shoes. To hear someone else’s story, to see that they saw, to feel what they felt, and from that to understand why they are the way they are, without judgement.
This is one of the things that drew me to wanting to work as a counsellor.
Not because I’ve lived your life - but because I’ve lived my life, and I know how valuable it has been to have people walking with me, supporting me, encouraging me, as I faced up to the hard things and worked through them.
And from this, I want to help others the way others have helped me.
Pay it forward.
To hear your story. To understand why you are the way you are. To walk with you, support you, and encourage you as you face up to whatever life is throwing your way. To help you work through it. Without judgement.
