Protect Yourself This Flu Season – Vaccinations Now Available! 💉

Influenza (flu) is a contagious respiratory illness that can lead to serious health complications. Annual vaccination is the most effective way to protect yourself and those around you.

The flu vaccine is recommended for everyone aged 6 months and over and strongly recommended and covered under the National Immunisation Program (NIP) for the following people most at risk of complications from influenza:
• Children aged 6 months to less than 5 years
• Pregnant women for every pregnancy and at any stage of pregnancy
• Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 6 months and over
• People aged 65 years and over
• People aged 6 months and over with certain medical conditions

Why get vaccinated?
• Reduces the risk of getting the flu and spreading it to others
• Decreases the severity of illness if you do contract the flu
• Helps protect vulnerable populations, including young children, the elderly, and those with chronic health conditions
• Lowers the risk of missing work, day care or school due to illness

You have a choice between cell-based and egg-based flu vaccines. Both options are available at the clinic, you don’t need to decide beforehand—you can discuss your options with your GP or nurse during your appointment.

You can also consult with your healthcare provider to determine your eligibility for the government funded vaccine and to discuss any concerns.

Book your flu vaccination appointment today and protect yourself and your loved ones.

March is Endometriosis Awareness Month.

Endometriosis affects 1 in 9 Australian women, yet it often goes undiagnosed for years. This condition can cause severe pelvic pain, heavy periods, fatigue, and fertility challenges, impacting daily life in more ways than one.

Why awareness matters:
💛 Symptoms can be dismissed or misdiagnosed, delaying treatment.
💛 Early diagnosis and management can improve quality of life.
💛 Raising awareness helps break the stigma and encourages better support.

If you're experiencing ongoing pelvic pain, painful periods, or other concerning symptoms, you are not alone. Your GP can help with diagnosis, treatment options, and symptom management.

This month, take a moment to learn, support, and advocate for better awareness and care. Book an appointment with your GP to discuss your symptoms today.

Protect your baby from RSV – government funded vaccine available now!👶

Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) is a serious disease for newborn babies and is a leading cause of childhood hospitalisation.

Why get vaccinated during pregnancy?

•Provides passive immunity by passing protective antibodies to your baby before birth.
• Reduces the risk of severe infections, hospitalisation, and breathing difficulties.
• Helps protect newborns from RSV complications in their first months of life.

The RSV vaccine will be available to pregnant women between 28 and 36 weeks under the National Immunisation Program (NIP) if they have, or are eligible for, a Medicare card.

If you're expecting in 2025, speak with your GP or maternity care provider about the RSV vaccination and eligibility.

Are you aged 45 – 49?

🩺Health checks for 45–49 year olds are highly recommended, as this is a key turning point in life—a chance to make lifestyle changes that can help prevent or delay the onset of chronic diseases.

Some risk factors that may lead to the development of chronic illness include:

• Family history of chronic diseases
• Biomedical factors like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or being overweight
• Lifestyle choices such as smoking, inactivity, excessive drinking, or poor diet.

If you recognise any of these risk factors in yourself or simply wish to minimise potential health risks, we strongly recommend scheduling a comprehensive health assessment with your GP.

February is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month 💙💚

Ovarian cancer often goes unnoticed because its symptoms can mimic less serious conditions. In most cases the cancer will be diagnosed at an advanced stage, where it is very difficult to treat. This is why awareness and early detection are so important.

We encourage you to start meaningful conversations and to be mindful of the ovarian cancer signs and symptoms. Wearing a splash of teal this month is a great way to raise awareness!

It is also important to note that your regular cervical screen (pap smear) does not test for ovarian cancer, only cervical cancer.

If you are experiencing persistent or troublesome symptoms, it’s essential to see your GP for further investigation.

The Importance of Continuity of Care
We believe that continuity of care—building an ongoing relationship with your local medical centre and GP—plays a vital role in your overall health and well-being.

Here’s why staying connected with the same medical centre and doctor matters:
• Personalised care - your GP gets to know you, your medical history, and your unique needs, providing more tailored and effective care.
• Early detection - regular visits with a trusted GP make it easier to spot potential health issues before they become serious.
• Better Chronic Disease Management - continuity helps monitor and manage long-term conditions like diabetes, asthma, or heart disease.
• Improved health outcomes - research shows that patients who visit the same medical centre and GP over time have fewer hospital visits and enjoy better overall health.

We’re committed to building long-term relationships with our patients to ensure you receive consistent, compassionate, and proactive care from your regular medical centre and GP.

Book your next appointment today and experience the benefits of continuity of care with our dedicated team.

As kids get ready to return to school, preschool, kindergarten, or start childcare, now is the perfect time to review their immunisation schedule. Keeping your child’s vaccinations up to date not only protects their health but also ensures your family remains eligible for childcare subsidies and Family Tax Benefit payments.

To assist parents, the National Immunisation Program (NIP) provides free vaccines at specific ages, including:

• 2 months (can be given at 6 weeks)
• 4 months
• 6 months
• 12 months
• 18 months
• 4 years

After age 4, vaccines are typically given through school programs, with catch-up options available from your GP.

Up-to-date immunisations protect against serious diseases like measles, mumps, and polio, keeping your child and the community safe.

To book your child's immunisation appointment, please call the clinic to schedule with a nurse and GP.

Are you turning 25 this year? Did you know that one dose of the HPV vaccine is free for all people aged 12 to 25 years if you missed your chance during school?

Additionally, if you’re 25 or older and have had any type of sexual contact, it’s recommended to have a cervical screening test every five years.

You can choose to do your cervical screening test privately (self-collection) or have a healthcare provider collect the sample for you.

Speak to your GP to book an HPV vaccine or a cervical screening test. If you prefer to self-collect, ask your GP for more information.

With changes to our National Awareness and Screening programs, preventing cervical cancer has never been easier.
