Endometriosis Awareness Month.
So many women are told that period pain is “normal”.
While period pain is common, ongoing or debilitating pain is not something you simply have to accept.
Endometriosis affects around 1 in 9 Australian women, and diagnosis can take many years — often 6–8 years on average. That’s a long time to feel unheard.
Research is continuing to explore how acupuncture may support women experiencing endometriosis-related pain. For example, a 2017 randomised controlled trial published in PLOS ONE found that acupuncture was associated with a reduction in endometriosis-related pain compared with sham treatment in the short term (Armour et al., 2017).
For some women, acupuncture offers a non-hormonal option that can sit alongside medical care as part of a broader wellbeing plan.
If you are navigating symptoms, waiting for answers, or building your care team, acupuncture may be something to consider as part of your individual journey.
