Yesterday, I listened to an interview on YogaU Online with Tom Myers about the latest in fascia research.
One of Tom’s amazing one liners – he’s so good at creating them – was:
THE BRAIN LISTENS TO THE FASCIA AND IT SPEAKS WITH THE MUSCLES.
This can be helpful, I thought, so I created a simple graphic to make it easier to memorize.
I also added one thing, which is crucial from a Movingness perspective:
In Movingness, we consciously use our muscles to engage the fascia. In this way, we create a loop, or a brain-muscle-fascia cycle.
And when it builds up it simply feels amazing!
So, in order to activate the fascia and help it speak with the brain, we use different levels of pandiculation (tension and release).
We also use deep slow breathing together with slow rhythmical movements (including moving and “massaging” the body against the floor).
And of course mindful awareness.
Any thoughts?
