Our children are watching us and learning from us, moment after moment. They watch us closely to see how we deal with struggle and hardship. They equally learn from us how to find and express joy, love and fun. Remember, they're watching us to learn how to "be" in the world.

Patience, tolerance, kindess, organisation, routines, love, creating fun, etc... yep, all of it.

One of the reasons why parenting is emotionally exhausting is that our children are our little mirrors ❤️

They are our reflection.
We look at them and often see parts of ourselves.....
Either how we are, or what we need to work on.
Some parts we adore. Other parts, we find triggering and confronting.

In those moments of struggle, remember they're watching you. It might help you show up as your BEST self. In those moments of self love and self compassion, they're learning and growing. In those moments of hearing self criticism, self doubt and intolerance, they're listening. If you are harsh to yourself, they hear that. If you celebrate your hard work and bad-ass-ness, they smile and hear that too!

We will never get it all right. But we sure can try but paying attention. Next time you're in the present of your child, catch their eyes so you know they're watching... and show them something.

Show them kindness - kiss their forhead
Model patience - "we can wait, I got time"
Show understanding - "accidents happen"
Show confidence and self love "i feel good day!" "Ohhh I nailed it!"
Model forgiveness and letting something go "that's okay, let's just enjoy the day"

For the families still in need of a Paediatrician... this clinic is north of the river but they are accepting new patients and may be able to provide necessary support for your child 🌟

We are at a loss why there are STILL paediatric waitlists for over 3 years for children with ASD/ADHD needing confirmation diagnosis, treatment +/- NDIS planning for allied health and support services. You do not need to wait on paediatric waitlists as children can be treated by GPs and medications prescribed by child psychiatrists.

How can we let the people of Perth know that we don't have long waitlists? - we offer a comprehensive affordable service in the primary health care setting and have face-to-face and Telehealth services for urgent access to stimulant medications prescribed by child and adolescent psychiatrists and monitored by our clinicians

Step 1: Ring the clinic to book and ADHD appointment - let the staff know if your child has had a complete psychology assessment and work-up or you are starting from scratch as the pathways and costs are slightly different:

Step 2: First appointment with Nurse/Nurse Practitioner and GP to take a comprehensive medical assessment, address any underlying issues such as bowel, bladder, sleep, nutrition, exercise, screen time, ENT, allergies, hyper-mobility, developmental or speech delays, iron and macro deficiencies, gut health and more - this appointment is a minimum of 90 minutes: We explain the Medicare Safety net and ask you to be sure you are registered correctly - we also ask about parents and siblings with ADHD/ASD signs or symptoms who may also benefit from assessment and treatment in the same calendar year to save massive amounts of money as medicare will pay 80% of all out of pocket costs once a threshold is reached. Your out of pocket gap is $300 and includes two follow-up bulk-billed appointments:

Step 3: Investigate: Bloods, allergy testing, gut health check, ECG and if 16 years or older Urine Drug screening - all bulk-billed at our clinic (ECG must be a specialist read ECG and can be arranged by the pathology company and bulk-billed)

Step 4: Follow up appointment one: results of investigations, discussion re interventions implemented and results, medications prescribed and plan for the next 1-2 months +/- specialist referral. This appointment may also involve a mental health treatment plan (if you choose to use the clinic as regular GP clinic for the next 12 months) and/or GP Management Plan and team Care arrangement, to access psychology and allied health with medicare rebates.

Step 5: Second follow up: We now have either some success in managing presenting issues such as emotional dysregulation, physical symptoms of anxiety, insomnia and lack of concentration - or we are waiting for a Telehealth appointment for a trial of medications -

Step 6: (for those needing specialist treatment) We welcome you back after your two appointments with the Telehealth psychiatrist and assist with arranging therapy and treatments once your child is stable on medication. We will continue to offer you care and services with a 12 monthly paediatric review until your child is 17 years of age, at which point they only need 3 yearly reviews.

Please share this with families you know are waiting for their children to be seen. We have new clinicians commencing in the coming weeks and welcome new patients including an urgent waitlist which we can usually accomodate cases within 2 weeks.

A lovely image reminding us of the power of connection and play 😀

What do you see when a child is at play? Running, building, creating, pretending—these are the moments that catch our eye. But just beneath the surface, something much deeper is happening.

Play is where children develop adaptability, confidence, and problem-solving skills. It’s where they learn to navigate risk, build friendships, and trust their own ideas. It’s where their brains and bodies work together, shaping the skills they’ll carry for life.

The next time you watch a child play, remember—what’s visible is just the tip of the iceberg. There is so much happening underneath!
