Focus Physio

Focus Physio Comprehensive physio treatment tailored to each individual. Physio. Acupuncture. Clinical Pilates. We treat the whole individual.

Every individual is different so we seek to understand:
The Physical You –your sport, exercise, genetic make-up, posture and any existing injuries
The Personal You –your approach to your health and emotional wellbeing, which can influence your overall health
The Emotional You –the requirements of your job, the demands of family and other commitments that affect your physical wellbeing
This is the biopsychosocial model, an approach David Adams has been following throughout his 30+ years of private practice. But we’re in this together – We believe prevention is just as important as cure, and encourage you to take an active part in your recovery. David will show you how to manage your injury to avoid further damage and to prevent pain. A holistic approach to treatment combining Eastern and Western philosophies.

What Injuries May Require Physiotherapy – And Why?

Injuries happen — but recovery doesn’t have to mean rest only.

Physiotherapy can help you heal faster, move better, and prevent future injuries. 💯

Here are common injuries that often need physio:

🔹 Sprains & Strains
From twisted ankles to pulled muscles — physio helps reduce pain, restore strength, and improve flexibility.

🔹 Fractures & Broken Bones
Once the cast comes off, rehab begins! Physiotherapy helps regain mobility, reduce stiffness, and rebuild muscle.

🔹 Sports Injuries
Torn ACL? Tennis elbow? Physio targets the root cause and gets you safely back in the game. 🏃‍♂️🎾

🔹 Post-Surgery Rehab
After surgeries like joint replacements or ligament repairs, physiotherapy is essential to restore normal movement and strength.

🔹 Back & Neck Pain
Poor posture or injury can lead to chronic pain. Physio offers relief through targeted exercises and manual therapy. 🧘

💡 Why physiotherapy? Because proper movement = proper healing. Avoid long-term complications and come back stronger. 💥

Dealing with pain? Don’t ignore it!

We can help you understand why you’re in pain - and what to do about it. Whether it’s from an injury, postural issues, or just life catching up with your body, we’re not just about treating the symptoms - it’s about getting to the cause.

You should see a physio if:
✔️ Your pain has lasted more than a few days.
✔️ It’s affecting how you move, sleep, or work.
✔️ You’ve had an injury or surgery.
✔️You’re relying on painkillers to get through the day.
✔️ The pain keeps coming back.
✔️ It’s holding you back from doing everyday things or things you enjoy.

Pain does not have to be your normal!
Take control of your life and get in touch!

Do you want to know exactly when or why a physio appointment is what you need?

Your physiotherapist is here to support your movement, recovery, and quality of life across a whole host of situations.

We’ve put together a quick rundown that we will break down further in future posts…..

🔹 Pain – Ongoing or sudden pain in joints, muscles, or nerves that affects daily life.

🔹 Injury – Recovery from sprains, strains, fractures, or post-surgery rehabilitation.

🔹 Restricted Movement or Stiffness – Trouble moving freely due to muscle tightness, joint stiffness, or reduced flexibility.

🔹 Arthritis – Support to manage joint pain, stiffness, and mobility.

🔹 Respiratory Symptoms – Help with breathing, fatigue, and chest clearance after illness (including post-viral symptoms).

🔹 Neurological Conditions – Rehabilitation for conditions like stroke, Parkinson’s disease, or multiple sclerosis to improve coordination, strength, and independence.

🔹 Age-Related Issues – Support for balance, mobility, falls prevention, and maintaining independence as you age.

That might seem a lot but it’s honestly just scratching the surface!

Need help with any of the above? Or just a quick chat to confirm that we can help you?

Arthritis is damage to the cartilage in joints.
Shoulder arthritis occurs when the cartilage starts wearing down on the ball and/or socket sides of the shoulder joint. It’s a common ailment, especially in individuals
over 50, and can result from wear and tear, injuries, or autoimmune diseases.

Symptoms of shoulder arthritis may include pain in the shoulder
joint, stiffness with reduced range of motion and inflammation.

There are many non surgical treatment options for shoulder arthritis, including:

◦ Rest and Activity Modification: Reducing activities that aggravate the pain.
◦ Physiotherapy:
Exercises to improve range of motion, strength, and flexibility.
◦ Acupuncture:
Reduces inflammation and pain by increasing your body’s production of endogenous opioids. (Your own natural pain modulators)
◦ Medications:
Over-the-counter pain relievers or prescription medications.
◦ Corticosteroid Injections:
To reduce inflammation and pain.
◦ Heat and Ice:
To manage pain and inflammation.

If you experience persistent shoulder pain, stiffness, or decreased range of motion, it’s essential to consult a healthcare professional for proper diagnosis, treatment and advice.

That’s where we come in!

So get in touch and we’ll help you manage. It’s part of what we do! 😇

Aaaand she’s off!! ✈️
This incredibly talented athlete has not just overcome a spinal disc rupture from a rowing competition accident in 2012 and the required spinal surgery, she then spent 4 years (yes years!) in hospital due to complications during that surgery.
To this day she is dealing with the fallout from her injuries and everything she has been through plus the myriad of resulting complications.
Mischa was referred to David by her doctor 6 years ago. Her GP knew he’d be the right fit for what was considered a very complicated presentation.
He thrives on complicated issues!
And so it began….

Until more recently, regular treatment has been all about improving and maintaining strength, mobility and Mischa’s quality of life. Then she picked up a badminton racquet and excelled at the game.
Helping her get to (and successfully through) firstly more local and then world championships became the focus.
Little did we know that qualifying for and preparing for Paris 2024 Paralympics would follow.
So exciting! But so much work to be done and so many hurdles to overcome along the way. New hurdles!
Mischa and David were up for it.
Over the years we have spent so much time with Mischa that we have become emotionally invested in her well-being. It’s impossible not to. She’s an absolute delight!
Words can’t describe how proud we are of where she is now, compared to the girl who was wheeled through our doors 6 years ago.
Playing for Australia at the Paralympics!
After only 2 years playing badminton no less!
We will be watching and cheering her on - of course. Big time!
Then back to business preparing her for L.A. Olympics 2028! 🥇

Go Mischa Ginns! 🎉🎉🎉💚💛

Here’s even more proof (as if you need it right?) that bad posture can cause all sorts of problems. Yes, even respiratory dysfunction!
A recent study from the National Library of Medicine……

The aim of this study was to evaluate the changes in posture and respiratory functions depending on the duration of smartphone usage.

There were significant differences in the craniovertebral angle, scapular index, and peak expiratory flow depending on the duration of smartphone usage.

The result of this study showed that prolonged use of smartphones could negatively affect both, posture and respiratory function.

She’s done it!!! Mischa Ginns (google her and throw the word badminton on the end) is off to the Paris Olympics!!
We couldn’t be more excited and proud.
David has been helping Mischa for years following a very serious spinal injury and a 4 year hospital stint.
To see her get to this level in sport….well…. Excited just doesn’t cover it.
Watch this space…… 🥇🎉

Make this the year!
Own it!
2024 already and what are you going to do with it?
This is the year of you!
Put things in place right now to really look after yourself.
Start with a list. Write down what you think your body and mind need to be their best. Not perfect. Just an achievable best.
Be specific with your list. No words like “more”. Exact goals or plans only.
The list can be as long as you like because you’re going to start by choosing two.
The most easily achievable and what you think is the most important.
So you may choose “drink 2 litres of water every day” and “be able to go walking or running with my fit friends”.
How will you achieve that?
*Buy a 2 litre water bottle and finish it every day. Look at you go! Now you can add another simple thing in.
*Start walking or running at your current level and slowly build up.
Look at you go! You’ve started a big one!
You’ll be able to add another big one soon!

So get at it. Make this your year!
We’re here to help make it happen.
If pain is holding back - we can help.
If lack of conditioning or strength is holding you back - we can help.
Not sure how to get started - we can help.
We’d love to join you on your “you” journey. 🙌🏼
