📢 Important Update - Bulk Billing Changes at Hanwood Surgery
We’re pleased to announce that Hanwood Surgery will be transitioning to a Medicare Bulk Billing Practice effective Monday 4th May.
This means we will bulk bill all Medicare-eligible patients for all eligible services under the program. All GPs at the practice are required to bulk bill for these services.
💙 What bulk billing means:
Bulk billing means we accept the Medicare benefit as full payment for eligible services, so there is no out-of-pocket gap fee for these consultations.
✔️ Eligible services include:
• GP consultations
• Chronic condition management plans and reviews
• Mental health treatment plans
• Health assessments
❗ Services not included under bulk billing (fees may apply):
• Procedures such as skin excisions
• Diagnostic services (e.g. ECG and pathology)
• Allied health and other non-GP services
• Pre-employment medicals
• Workers Compensation and third-party claims
👶 Patients without a Medicare number:
If Medicare eligibility cannot be confirmed at the time of service (e.g. newborns, newly arrived migrants, or overseas visitors under reciprocal agreements), bulk billing may not apply. Our team will discuss available options with you if this occurs.
If you are eligible for Medicare at the time of your visit, you may still be able to claim later under standard Medicare arrangements, however gap fees may still apply in some circumstances.
