The time for action to support women’s access to choice is now!
This is a human rights issue, even if homebirth is not a choice you would access, all women deserve the right to have access to this choice, whereas the current legislative changes that are slated will remove the basic right of self determination, autonomy and choice for so many families and do nothing to improve safety or maternal and neonatal morbidity or mortality outcomes.
The Federal Government has committed to underwrite an insurance product for Privately Practising Midwives (PPMs) attending ‘low risk’ homebirths. PPMs estimate that between 70 and 80% of their current client base would be considered medium to high risk. We are lobbying the government to ensure that ALL women can access homebirth with a midwife, regardless of ‘risk’.
