Your core muscles aren't just about having that 6 pack—they're there help to stabilise your entire body!

Core muscles also include the:
- Diaphragm
- Paraspinals, a group of muscles that run from the base of the skull, along either side of the spine, all the way down to the tail bone
- Transverse abdominis, this wraps all the way around the torso like a corset and stretches from the bottom of the ribcage to the top of the pelvis
- Pelvic floor

Having a strong core may help to improve your balance, posture and stability in everyday activities like walking, lifting, and even sitting.

Try incorporating these exercises to improve your core strength:

🏋️ Planks
🏋️ Bird-dog exercise
🏋️ Controlled leg raises

Runner’s knee slowing you down? 🏃💥

That aching, nagging pain around your kneecap or the outside of the knee isn’t something to push through—it’s your body asking for help!

Common causes are overuse, muscle imbalances, and weak hip or thigh muscles.

The good news? Strengthening exercises can help—starting with these spilt squats 🔥

Maintaining control of the front knee through range is great for building quad and glute strength, improving form and stability, and reducing knee pain.

To set the exercise up:
1. Fit a resistance band around a secure surface and around the knee.
2. Step forward with your banded leg about 1.5 foot lengths and use your glute muscles to keep the pressure outward on the band. A good cue to think about is to keep your knee over your second toe.
3. Bend your front leg and lower your back knee toward the ground, keeping your torso upright. Go as low as you can while keeping good form and without pain.

Aim to complete 3 sets of 10. If it's sore, first try reducing the depth of the squat. If it still hurts, then it's time to see a physio for a check up.

Try adding them to your routine and train smarter, not harder! 💪

Balance isn’t just for tightrope walkers—it’s important for everyone!

Good balance may help to reduce the risk of falls, improve posture, and help with everyday movements. Give these simple exercises go:

⚖️ Single-Leg Stance – Stand on one foot for 30 seconds, then switch sides - it may help to hold onto something!

⚖️ Heel-to-Toe Walk – Walk in a straight line placing one foot directly in front of the other.

What’s your favourite way to challenge your balance? Let us know!

Sitting at a desk all day? Taking short movement breaks can help reduce tension in your neck, shoulders, and back. Try these quick stretches:

🖥️ Neck Rolls – Gently roll your head side to side
🖥️ Shoulder Shrugs – Lift and drop your shoulders to release tension
🖥️ Seated Spinal Twist – Turn gently to each side while seated

A little movement each hour may help to keep your body feeling better throughout the day! What’s your go-to desk stretch?

Finger joint synovitis (aka capsulitis) is a common climbing injury caused by inflammation in the finger joints—often from repeated crimping on small holds. It can cause pain, swelling, and stiffness, especially in the middle or ring fingers.

In our newest article, David discusses how treatment and modifying your climbing technique can help improve FJS, and highlights how prevention is key to protecting your joints and staying injury-free.

It's National Stroke Week

Strokes happen fast, and acting quickly is critical. Recognising the signs of a stroke can save lives.

Remember to think F.A.S.T.:

Face – Does one side droop when they smile?
Arms – Can they lift both, or is one weak?
Speech – Is their speech slurred or hard to understand?
Time – Call emergency services immediately if you notice any of these signs.

Every second counts in a stroke emergency. Knowing what to do could make all the difference. Share this knowledge and help spread awareness. 🧠
