"Healing in a Nutshell" - Trauma Resolution Progarm
Trauma can affect the mind, the body, the nervous sytem, the emotions and the gut health, and can be behind a plethora of other illnesses in the body. The connection between emotion and illness is slowly becoming more recognised as a part of illness. Sometimes the best way to treat illness is to treat the unlying trauma so that the body can heal.
Trauma can be different for different people. It comes in all shapes and sizes. It may be caused by a single incident or repeated incidents. It may have visual, auditory or kineasthetic memory; it may be associated with tastes or smells. It may be the outcome of abuse but it may also be the outcome of an accident, injury, illness or incident that left a lasting emotional impression.
For some people, trauma begins in childhood. When children are exposed to repeated abuse, criticsm or neglect, they may be assailed by thougts of being unworthy, unwanted or unloved. Functioning as an adult in the present can be very difficult while unresolved memories from the past constantly fill the mind with feelings of anguish, insufficiency, guilt or low self worth.
For others, trauma begins with a life-threatening event, a natural disaster or being put in a situation that caused extreme feelings of stress, fear or isolation.
The symptoms of trauma may present shortly after the event or months or years later. Women are four times more likely to experience a traumatic event than men.
Most people who've experienced trauma also experience the repeat of feelings, thoughts or memories that made them feel scared or unsafe. These feelings can cause other emotions to surface that can seem irrational or out of place to others.
People who've experienced trauma may want to avoid certain places, people or situations. They may lose interset in what they would usually enoy or prefer to be isolated rather than social.
If trauma has been a part of your life, it probably affects you most of the time, but it doesn't have to stay this way. It's possible to live a life without trauma. Being free of the bad feelings, thoughts and memories is possible. You don't have to live with a lifelong sentence of trauma.
