We have pleasure in welcoming Richard Gray,
Psychologist, to our Health-care team at Hawks Nest Medical Practice. Richard holds a Bachelor of Social Science (Maj: Philosophy & Psychology), a Post Graduate Diploma of Psychology (Counselling) and a Masters of Health Science (Drug & Alcohol Studies).
Richard commenced his career with the Department of Community Services working with youth, thence continued in various positions across their program areas for 16 years. He then worked in a Residential Drug & Alcohol Treatment Facility for 5 years as a Drug & Alcohol Therapist and then Clinical Team Leader. Moving to NSW Health for 16 years, in both Hospital and Community Health settings, his final position with the NSW Public Service was as a Senior Psychologist within a Child & Family Counselling team. He has been in private practice for the past 5 years, initially establishing this in Lithgow prior to re-settling in Hawks Nest.
He has a broad range of experience and training in Child & Family Counselling, Cognitive-Behavioural, and Psychodynamic treatment approaches. He identifies that Trauma-informed care underpins each of his clinical practice models.
He returned to part-time University studies in 2022 and is completing a Bachelor of Music Degree that incorporates electives in Music Psychology. Richard has a professional and personal interest in ‘Music for Health and Well-being’ and ‘Music as Therapy’ and hopes to incorporate these approaches within the range of treatment approaches available to clients within his clinical practice.
Richard is a Registered Psychologist (No. PSY0001405702) and is a member of the Australian Psychological Society (MAPS) and the Australian Music Psychology Society.
