Boy Under the Bridge

Boy Under the Bridge Counsellor | Writer | Seeker Boy Under the Bridge is my platform where I document my journey to the brighter side of life.

I chose the alias of ‘boy’ because if there’s anything we should cherish and keep from our childhood, it’s the way we see the world. Children see things with curiosity, creativity, awe and possibility. This is the essence of our inner child we should never lose touch with. My content covers the themes of philosophy, personal growth and mental health. And I also offer individual counselling to directly support those seeking to make changes in their lives.

Got to see in the.. chalk?

I watched her Ted Talk years ago and have always loved the idea of bucket lists.

What's on yours?

A short summary of what it was like to walk the Camino De Santiago - 700+ km across Spain!

I've written a longer blog and uploaded a bunch of photos on my blog, too.

This was something I had long in the works for almost a decade, so completing it was a dream come true (minus the bed bugs).

Is the Camino something you'd want to do?

1 year ago, three Australian Amigos left a tiny town on the French border and started their 800km walk across Spain.

Despite it being a huge struggle, and thinking about lying on the couch at home, I often find myself missing the open road. At the time, I couldn't understand why people go back. But now I do.

I definitely do.

A month off is hard to come by, but something I've come to appreciate about the Camino is that it comes with you.

Once you walk The Way, you never just 'walk' again. Even if it is just laps around the block, my mind goes somehow different.

I remind myself that the freedom I found is still mine. And any time I feel lost, I can reclaim it step by step.

More photos and writing to come.

Raksha mask is a mask that Sri Lankans use a lot in festivals and cultural dances. Raksha means “demon” and the masks are apotropaic which means that it is intended to ward off evil.

The Mayura Raksha is believed to bring peace, harmony and wealth, according to the superstition of Sri Lankan culture. The masks represent three beautifully feathered peacocks on the sides and top of the mask.

Special night seeing

He's been a big part of my own journey personally, especially through my diagnosis with ADHD. Then as a therapist, in the way he always connects with people at their core. Seeing their humanity behind the hurt and pain.

I also got the chance to give him a card I wrote, with some poems and the story of how his work impacted me in another way.

In 2018 I found a playlist on YouTube called "Gabor Mate Clues Series" where someone has curated a range of Gabors best speaking segments into bite sized pieces with added music and video footage for delivery. I messaged the creator and Skyped with him, forming a new online connection in the UK. His name is Ish.

Eventually Ish moved to Portugal opening his own retreat centre named Lighthouse Retreats. Then during my Camino trip, our paths had the chance to physically cross. I got to stay in Ish's beautiful place in the hills of Portugal.

Ish had a photo of Gabor in his space that I now have in my therapy room - a tribute to two beautiful souls.

My goal after the Camino was to take the 'next step' in my business by separating my work as a therapist from Boy Under the Bridge. One is all about me; the other more what I can do for others.

After days of deciding on a name, finding 99% of them were taken, and getting honest feedback on ideas that wouldn't fly, I decided on... me.

My name was the only name that encapsulated all of me, I guess.

Anyways, here it is: therapywithricky.com.au - which is also linked in my bio.

I finished off the year with some amazing feedback from clients. And although it took till my 30s to get here, it's a real blessing to do work I enjoy, I'm good at, and is meaningful.
