Tomorrow, is National Sorry Day and we would like to take a moment to pause and remember the injustices faced by the stolen generations and their families. We acknowledge the pain and trauma inflicted upon Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and recognise the importance of reconciliation and CMI’s role in it.
Our work at Cairnmillar is rooted in making mental health services accessible for all Australians. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have faced systemic barriers to mental health care, and we must continue working to bridge this gap. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples also have a wealth of strength and culture, that we must honour, acknowledge and learn from.
This year's theme for NRW is "Bridging Now to Next," which encourages us to learn from our past, recognise the strides we've made, and continue to push forward as past lessons guide us.

Over the past few weeks, Cairnmillar Institute has kicked off the new academic year with orientation events, providing students with an opportunity to engage with peers, faculty, and support services. These sessions not only shared essential information and resources but also allowed students to build connections and explore their campus and the city.

We are thrilled by the enthusiasm of our students and the hard work of our staff in preparing for these events. As the year begins, we can’t wait to continue supporting our students on their academic journey and beyond!

On this World Day of Social Justice, let's discuss the deep connection between mental health and social equity.

Did you know that 80% of people suffering from mental health disorders are from low-income countries? Or that individuals in racial-ethnic minority groups also receive less-than-optimal care.*

Access to psychological support should not be limited by income, geography, or stigma. It's time to break barriers and advocate for mental health equity.

At Cairnmillar, we believe that prioritising mental health is essential. Our clinical services are here to provide accessible care for everyone whenever you need it.

Our Story

The Cairnmillar Institute is a not-for-profit organisation and registered charity. We have been providing counselling and mental health education to the community for nearly 60 years, including offering accredited postgraduate courses in both psychology and counselling, short courses and professional development.

Cairnmillar is an outstanding example of what psychology and psychotherapy can do for people, and for our community. Cairnmillar has established a reputation not only for itself, but for the place of psychology in helping professions. In addition, its professional and community education programs have been a high priority from the outset.
