The finish line for MedWalk study is fast approaching.
With testing concluded in South Australia and the just the final four groups in Victoria left to complete their 12 month testing, the main aspect of the MedWalk study is nearing completion. At this stage we should be finished before Christmas.
Congratulations to our amazing and dedicated research teams at Swinburne University and the University of South Australia for getting this far.
And, of course, a big thank you to our wonderful participants, who have worked with us over the last couple of years.

There are still places available for those who are interested

Recruitment for MedWalk is now well under way in Victoria and South Australia.
If a recruitment visit has already taken place at your village and you missed out for any reason, there is still time to join up if you are interested.
If you would like to have a chat with us about the study, either to join up or just to find out more about the study - please feel free to email us.

Victoria: vic@medwalk.com.au
South Australia: sa@medwalk.com.au

Please note that we are currently only able to enroll people who are living at one of our designated villages. However, we will be looking for more independent living communities to be involved in the near future - particularly if there are a number of people at one village who are interested.

24/04/2020

Unfortunately, due to the current COVID-19 health crisis, the MedWalk trial will have to delay its start.
We are working with a section of our community who are particularly vulnerable to serious consequences of this virus. The health and safety of our participants, their families and their communities is of paramount importance. Therefore, as we need to be particularly cautious, we do not anticipate being able to begin the trial until early 2021
Thank you for your understanding and patience.

This was from our precursor LIILAC study - 5 years ago.

It was here that two PhD candidates - Greg Kennedy and Roy Hardman - established and refined much of the onsite assessment methodology which now underlies the MedWalk trial.

The MedWalk trial explores the effects of a combination of a Mediterranean diet, daily exercise and social interaction on reducing cognitive decline and other dementia risk factors in older Australians.
It aims to investigate the underlying factors responsible for reducing dementia risk and the cost-effectiveness of the intervention.
