A simple toy demonstration shows how lifting posture changes the amount of pressure on your spine.

When you bend forward and hold weight away from your body, your spine acts like a long lever. This dramatically increases pressure on the lower back and discs. Research in ergonomics shows that spinal load can multiply several times when the torso leans forward while lifting.
When you bend your knees and keep your back straight, the weight stays closer to your body. In this position, the hips and legs handle most of the force instead of the lower back.
This is why proper lifting technique matters.

3 simple rules for safer lifting:
• Keep the load close to your body
• Maintain a neutral spine
• Use your legs to lift, not your back

Small posture changes can reduce spinal pressure and help prevent long-term back injuries.
