HAPPY WORLD PHYSICAL THERAPY DAY! - https://mailchi.mp/f0aae2e95c4d/rqhnxfyd8h

Many theories exist on the origin of physical therapy but one that is well known was the British nurses who cared for the soldiers in the Crimean War (1853-1856) who also took care of injured soldiers’ rehabilitation. This was the beginning of physiotherapy or physical therapy as we know it today.

Clinking?? Popping?? JAW

Clicking or Popping is a sensation you have at both/either opening and closing your mouth. Clicking or popping is caused by either tight clenching cheek muscles or a disc inside jaw joints is pulled and displaced when opening or closing your mouth. It is often and mostly painless because disc in the jaw joint is not innervated (no nerve supply to detect pain).

Clicking and popping jaws are often a result of long term habit. Self exercise is a great way to change your jaw habit!! Initial consultation by a jaw specialised Physio is even more powerful, effective and efficient, because we can improve any physical causes by manual therapy and we can train your brain how to move your jaw correctly by guiding.

This is why we are here to assist you!

Why you choose Physios for your Jaw Treatment

The simple answer is physios are joint specialists and jaw is a joint!!

Jaw, anatomically we call temporomandibular joint, a pair of TMJs are one of the most complex joints in human body that allow movements of up and down, left and right, forward and back, and combinations of all.

Key point of jaw treatment is keeping its balance. I see many patients whose jaw movement is zig zag, who have an imbalance and tight sensation in cheek muscle, etc. Muscle tightness and patterns of joint movement can be changed and improved during your treatment journey.

I have some patients who came to see me because they didn’t want to file or put resin on their teeth that was recommended to them. I admire their decision to choose physiotherapy for their jaw treatment in the first place, because Physio can make a positive impact on their muscles and joint movements while a change made on their teeth would be permanent and it should be reserved as a last resort.

So see a jaw specialised physiotherapist for your jaw treatment!
