Heartbeat of Football

Heartbeat of Football Promoting heart health through sport There is a tendency to focus on heart issues only after a tragedy, however Heartbeat of Football aims to change this.

In Australia, it is believed there have been 10 cases of heart-related deaths of amateur football players in the past two years, with the latest on a Sunday morning in January 2016. As ever-increasing members of the community see the benefits of, and enjoy taking part in, amateur sport, Heartbeat of Sport is proactive in both education to prevent heart-related events, and in procuring the necessary equipment (in the form of defibrillators) to help prevent deaths following on-field heart incidences.

FUNDRAISING

A big week with our testing program in Dubbo this week. Supported by the NSW Office of Sport, we were also able to bring our to the NSW First Nations Football Festival. Over 2 days a number of players and spectators from the local Dubbo teams and visiting teams from numerous parts of Australia, including Central Coast NSW and Western Australia, took the opportunity to do a quick heart health check. Our nurses again provided blood pressure, total cholesterol, and blood sugar tests in quick personalised checks, recommending GP follow up where needed. #

As part of our Heartbeat of the Community partnership with Leagues Clubs Australia, this week we brought our testing activations to Dubbo RSL. Members and staff took up the opportunity to get their blood pressure, total cholesterol, and blood sugar levels tested and had conversations with our nurses about heart health and cardiovascular disease prevention, with those who had results outside the national healthy range in any of risk factors, advised to follow up with their GP.
