Another golden nugget in the management of Frozen Shoulder Syndrome! Add this in addition to the neck stretch I posted previously (courtesy of my mentor, Stuart Hinds).

The ‘freezing stage’ of frozen shoulder is a key time to introduce a gentle stretching regimen.
This shoulder shrug stretch works well with yesterday’s neck stretch. It can be performed up to five times daily for 2-5 minutes. You can move both shoulders at the same time and then independently.
1. Stand upright
2. Shrug your shoulders upwards towards your neck and hold for 8 seconds
3. Let your shoulders drop
4. Push your shoulders down towards the floor and hold for 8 seconds
5. Gently rotate your shoulders in circles for 3 seconds
6. Repeat 3 times

One of my mentors and educators on the has shared this post. I often am asked about what stretches or movements are helpful during Phase 1 “ Freezing” in the Frozen Shoulder process. This neck stretch can help alleviate some of the stress and tension you feel during this time.

The ‘freezing stage’ of frozen shoulder is a key time to introduce a gentle stretching regimen.
This neck stretch helps pull into the neck muscles and helps alleviate the tense protective posture people with frozen shoulder often adopt:

1. Stand upright in a good posture
2. Lean your head away from the affected shoulder gently. You should feel a light stretch in the neck
3. Maintain this stretch for about 10 seconds, then repeat on the opposite side
4. Do this 3 times on each side of the neck
