We would like to introduce Irene and Jorg. These two have supported Yarra Valley Midwives since the very beginning. Many of you may know Jorg as our fabulous consulting obstetrician. Jorg has mentored, advised and supported us along the sometimes complex journey of Independent Midwifery. Such an important topic for indigenous and non indigenous Australian’s. Improving indigenous birthing outcomes is a community responsibility.

Increasing access to indigenous midwives for indigenous mothers by creating opportunities and access to Midwifery programs need to be a public health priority.

Nyoongar woman and midwife Valerie Ah Chee started her midwifery training aged 41. It followed the birth of her youngest son Raphael who was her most complex at 28+4 days. He weighed 1,650gms and was in NICU for eight weeks. He was really tiny compared to his brothers. It
