Who else has been shivering through today’s cold snap? I’ve even seen pics of snow locally!

If you have had a treatment with before you will know he is not, as a general rule, a fan of the cold! (It’s a Traditional Chinese Medicine thing!)

TCM pracs see cold to have a negative effect on the body. It results in restricted movement, slowing the flow of Qi and Blood. When water freezes it ceases to move. The cold has the same impact on our blood and Qi.

Have you noticed stiffness and pain in your neck after leaving it exposed to a chilly day or if a cold wind suddenly picks up? This is a result of impaired flow of Qi through that localised area.

“If there is free flow there is no pain; If there is no free flow there is pain”
(Traditional Chinese saying)⛩

This is why we are such big fans of layers and scarves and generally dressing sensibly with the weather in mind! This is particularly important during Spring when you never know what temperature you may encounter!

In addition to the direct result of cold on our exposed skin, a chill in the air, damp, or wind can expose us to pathogenic invasion due to a deficiency of our Nutritive Qi and Protective Qi. When there are internal imbalances resulting in deficiency of Qi or impairment of blood flow the body will become vulnerable. It then becomes easy for what we term “external invasions”, from events such as the changing seasons and cold weather. This can negatively influence our health and further deplete our Qi.

A common example of this is when we see arthritis, old joint injuries and other musculoskeletal conditions aggravated by cold damp weather or wind.

If you are feeling the effects of this weeks unstable weather patterns has one appointment left tomorrow at 2pm. Make it yours by booking online or calling (03)59061494.

As much as we all wish good health came easy it’s often a case of starting, falling, dusting yourself off and starting again.

Particularly for those experiencing complicated, chronic poor health it can be easy to feel despondent while you try time and time again to find the solution that’s the right fit for you.

Many of our patients arrive at Acupuncture after exhausting numerous other avenues. That makes it even more important that once here, in the clinic, they feel heard, held and most importantly that there is a plan to get them on the path to feeling better.

In practice works with a broad range of complex imbalances. These imbalances present as common chronic health issues such as:

- chronic pain
- fibromyalgia
- chronic fatigue
- adrenal fatigue
- digestive disturbances
- infertility
- mental health issues
- and a wide range of woman’s health issues.

All of these imbalances respond extremely well to Traditional Chinese Medicind therapies.

If you are ready to take a look at your health from a new perspective please get in touch with us at you can book online or call (03)59061494 with any questions.

FUN FACT - It was actually personal experience with Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine for sinus pain that put him on the road to becoming an acupuncturist.

Chinese Medicine has a few brilliant ways to knock chronic sinus issues on the head. Many of our patients who are chronic sinus or seasonal hayfever sufferers find that acupuncture can be used to not only relieve symptoms but prevent them!

Acupuncture treatments aid in the circulation of qi and work to boost the very important & protective Wei Qi that allergy sufferers are often lacking.

At we also have some brilliant herbs (it’s ok many of them are capsules) that are every sinus pain sufferers best friend.

Treatment doesn’t stop when you leave clinic. Education around lifestyle and diet can help you combat sinus and therapies such as using a Netty Pot are often prescribed.

Netty Pots are used for Nasal irrigation. It’s not the nicest topic we know, and if you have never done it before probably makes you feel a bit alarmed but stay with us on this because it’s absolutely one of the best home practices to incorporate when it comes to relieving chronic sinus and hay fever!

Our nasal passages are amazing. They are lined with tiny hairs and mucus membranes that act as a filter against the many foreign particles that are floating around in the air. It’s particularly hard work these days with the pollution, chemicals, fragrances, pollen and dust in our day to day life. This results in overload and mucus buildup (hay fever and sinus pain) which can be overcome by cleansing using nasal irrigation with a neti pot.

The neti pot is a small teapot shaped vessel that uses a mild salt solution to rinse the nasal passage. By tilting the head correctly the solution is able to enter through one nostril, pass through the sinuses and drain out the other nostril flushing out irritants and excess mucous.

If sinus and hay fever is something you tackle on an ongoing basis and you are ready for a new approach then please reach out. Book on (03)59061494 or online today!

Are you struggling with inflexibility, indecision or changes in mood?

Your Spring Element of Wood may be out of balance.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine Spring is associated with the element of Wood.

Spring demonstrates rebirth and new growth. It is a period of vitality and life at its strongest and most dynamic.

It is an exciting time of new life and prompts us to draw our focus to new beginnings.

The elements of nature are also seen within us, reflected in the energies of our body.

The element of Wood carries with it a strong dynamic energy.

When well balanced it can represent strength, growth, progress and leadership. It expresses vision for the future, vitality and energy. A healthy Wood element motivates us and draws us to focus on new beginnings.

An imbalance or excess of the Wood element like its namesake can present as ridged, and inflexible. A deficiency may become apparent in behaviours such as indecisiveness, lack of vision, low self worth and despondency.

Are you feeling like you might be a little out of balance this Spring? Get in touch with us at to book in a seasonal tune up.

October is Mental Health Awareness month in Australia.

Traditional Chinese Medicine observes that our emotions and our physical health are intrinsically linked. We also note how influential seasonal shifts can be on our experience of health.

Spring is the time associated with the Liver and Gallbladder and the main emotions observed with imbalance of these organs are frustration and anger.

In Spring there can be much truth to the phrase “feeling liverish”!

Suppressed anger, frustration and resentment can also cause the Liver Qi to become stagnant and when this happens irritability is often a diagnostic clue. Long term stagnation of Liver Qi can also result in chronic mood disorders such as depression.

The Gallbladder shares the Liver’s tendency towards a connection with anger when it is out of balance. In the case of the Gallbladder this is more likely to present as inability to make decisions and generally feeling lack luster and uninspired.

Feeling moody? No spring in your step? Bit grumpy lately? Maybe your Liver and Gallbladder is out of whack!
