Got an unreliable gut?
It’s fair to say that most of us have ups and downs with our digestive health. If you are finding the downs are more frequent that the ups and that your unreliable gut is impacting life it could be that you are one of the 1 in 5 Australians that have irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
This month is IBS awareness month and the 2026 focus is breaking down the stigma, encouraging further investigations and sharing options for support. With this in mind we wanted to let you know how could help you manage IBS.
Traditional Chinese Medicine views IBS as our bodies response to another underlying imbalance. There are many different dietary, lifestyle or internal imbalances that could result in a patient experiencing gastrointestinal symptoms. Some common considerations are:
* Mental health issues inclusive of stress, anxiety and depression
* Dietary considerations inclusive of irritant foods, overeating, food intolerances, food poisoning, lactose intolerance
* Infection or ill health
* Hormonal imbalances
* Allergic responses
* Reactions to medications
* Genetic factors
The flow on affects of an unhappy gut are many and varied. When our digestive system, the primary source of our energy, is in disarray the results can stretch beyond the expected bowel changes and tummy pain and begin to include symptoms such as fatigue, anxiety, irritation and an unsettled mind.
To experience long term resolution of the symptoms of IBS it’s essential to discover and treat the root cause of the imbalance.
