It was a pleasure to welcome our partners BreadHub to our balit wurun health centre. A local volunteer group dedicated to collecting and sharing food within the community, Bread Hub are expanding their work with a new project, PoolHub. The program provides free pool passes to families who may face barriers to accessing local health facilities.

This National Diabetes Week, our community health team and the Darebin diabetes peer support group are encouraging everyone to book a health check.

Almost 400,000 Victorians live with diabetes, and more remain undiagnosed. Early detection and ongoing care can make a big difference.

✔️ Frequent checks for your eyes, feet, blood pressure and kidneys can help prevent serious problems.

✔️ Have a family member with type 1 diabetes? You might be able to get a free Type1Screen test to check your risk.

As NAIDOC Week comes to a close, our Community Health team came together for a shared breakfast before joining the NAIDOC march in the city.

It was a powerful way to stand in solidarity, celebrate the strength and culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and reflect on this year’s theme: The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy.

Last week, our Men's Social Support Program had a fantastic BBQ in honour of Men's Health Week. It was an incredible day full of connection, learning and mindfulness, including activities like:
🧘‍♂️ A mindfulness and meditation session led by Kristen, one of our expert counsellors
💪 A seminar on the benefits of exercise presented by Lukaz, a personal trainer from Vision Personal Training
🎨 Painting garden bed stakes for our community garden

Men’s Health Week offers an opportunity highlight the importance of men's physical and mental health, emotional resilience and being part of supportive communities.

If you identify as male, the Darebin Men’s Shed is a safe space to enjoy a cuppa and a yarn, explore hands-on activities and meet new people. From woodworking to gardening, bike repairs to a game of pool, there is always something to do, and you will be part of a welcoming community.
