Today we celebrate all women around the world - especially those making a difference in the arts, entertainment, and healthcare industries.

Olivia Newton-John was not only a globally iconic, award-winning singer and actress who left an indelible mark on the entertainment industry, but also a tireless champion for whole-person cancer care. Through her vision and determination, her contribution to healthcare continues to change lives.

Olivia turned her own experience with cancer into a powerful force for lasting change. Today, we honour her enduring legacy - a legacy of compassion, courage, and care that continues to touch so many lives through Austin Health’s dedicated cancer centre, the Olivia Newton-John Cancer and Wellness Centre.

The ONJ Centre delivers world-leading cancer treatment and provides evidence-based wellness therapies to support and sustain patients every step of the way. Thanks to the generosity of communities around the world, the wellness therapies are delivered free to patients receiving care at the ONJ Centre.

On this International Women’s Day, we celebrate Olivia and the many women across the arts, entertainment, and healthcare communities who continue to inspire progress, compassion, and hope.

After Hannah Willmott sadly passed away from a brain tumour in January 2025, her family and friends wanted to keep supporting the ONJ Centre, just as Hannah loved to do.

Last year, Hannah’s community came together in Bemm River, a place she loved for a fishing competition, fun run, raffles and a dinner to share stories and celebrate Hannah’s life. The weekend raised vital funds to help the ONJ Centre continue supporting patients and families facing cancer.

Hannah was incredibly proud of her fundraising during treatment, and it’s clear her legacy is continuing through the people who love her.

The ONJ Centre is now delivering an advanced form of whole-body radiation, becoming the first hospital in Victoria to offer Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy (VMAT).

This technique precisely targets diseased bone marrow while avoiding healthy organs like the lungs, kidneys and eyes.

The result? Reduced side effects and a safer, smoother recovery for patients preparing for stem cell and bone marrow transplants.

It is another example of the ONJ Centre bringing leading cancer treatments to Victorian patients.

Today we celebrate the 13th birthday of the Olivia Newton-John Cancer and Wellness Centre.

From the ground up, Olivia played a hands-on role in bringing her vision to life — a place where patients receive not only world-class cancer treatment, but also the holistic care and compassion that supported her throughout her own cancer journey.

As a pioneer of Cancer Wellness, Olivia believed deeply in caring for the whole person — mind, body, spirit, and heart. Because of her vision, thousands of patients today can access free supportive programs such as art therapy, music therapy, exercise physiology, oncology massage, psychology, and other evidence-based therapies that bring comfort, confidence, and strength during treatment.

As we head into the holiday season, we’re mindful of the many patients who will spend this time at the Centre — receiving care, finding support, and leaning on these essential wellness programs.

This week, we celebrated 743 staff who reached years of service milestones, ranging from 10 to 45 years, with our annual Years of Service Awards. 🎉

Together, these staff have provided a staggering total of 13,315 years of service to Austin Health and our patients!

We caught up with Peggy Finegan, After Hours Site Manager at the Royal Talbot, who marked an impressive 45 years, and asked her to share some memorable moments from her time at Austin Health.

Through our Wellness Centre and supportive care programs, we help patients and families navigate the physical, emotional, and practical challenges of cancer, creating a space focused on healing, resilience, and wellbeing.
