Dr Michael Stapelberg is joining the team at Helensvale Plaza Medical Centre filling in for our GPs that is going on leave. Dr Stapelberg is a general practitioner and is fully accredited with the Skin Cancer College of Australasia (SCCA). His special interests include diagnosis of skin cancer, skin cancer surgery including local skin flaps and grafts, non-surgical skin cancer management and primary care dermatology. In addition to his fellowship with The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP), he has completed an additional three years of training in the field of skin cancer medicine and surgery and obtained an Advanced Clinical Certificate of Skin Cancer Medicine & Surgery (SCCA) and Advanced Clinical Certificate of Dermoscopy (SCCA). This concentrated training enables him to regularly deal with patients with skin cancer-related concerns.
He graduated with first-class honours in Anatomy from the University of Queensland and completed his medical degree at Griffith University and then clinic training in leading teaching hospitals through Queensland. He also pursued extensive research at the University of Sydney into the damaging effects of ultraviolet (UV) radiation contained in sunlight and was awarded a postgraduate PhD doctorate for this work. He has also completed the internationally recognised Diploma in Practical Dermatology from Cardiff University, UK, and is currently completing the MSc in Practical Dermatology .

Helensvale Plaza Medical Centre has received the flu vaccinations for ages 6 months to 64 years of age. The National Immunisation Program (NIP) provides free influenza vaccines to people most at risk of complications from influenza. Influenza vaccines can be administered on the same day as any COVID-19 vaccine.
