Hi everyone Jacqui Brock, owner of IXL Family History here. I haven't kept it a secret that I was diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this year. I'm fundraising for the National Breast Cancer Foundation whose goal is 'zero deaths from breast cancer'. Anyone who donates to this cause (even if its just $5) will go into the draw to win a beautiful hat designed and gifted by Cassie Aussie Hats. If you click on the link below you can donate and/or scan through the posts to see the lovely hat worth $90, and if you're not local - I'll cover the postage costs.

Did you know that the Queensland Tenure Maps series were published at a scale of 12 miles to an inch and used 7 sheets to cover all of Queensland?

Scans of this map series dated from 1920 to 1922 have been released via the Historical maps topic available from the Queensland Globe. They can be accessed via the Cadastral 12 mile series layer (along with additional maps scans at this scale). They are a valuable historical land research resource as they provide a snapshot of land tenure at the time showing land held as pastoral holdings, freehold, grazing selections, agricultural selections and prickly pear selections.

This is a cropped part of Queensland Tenure Map sheet 5 dated 1920.

Friends - please share...
The Toowoomba and Darling Downs Family History Society’s are looking for stories for the next volume of "Our Backyard and Beyond". If you know of someone who is buried anywhere in the Toowoomba Regional Council area, whether it be in a cemetery, on private land, or perhaps their ashes have been interred or scattered somewhere - and you'd like to write their story - now is the time. The story can be about their family tree, a short biography of that person, or a particular event or achievement in their lives. It can be anything from a couple of paragraphs to around 1500 words (or more).

Your story doesn't have to be about a family member or someone you are connected to - it could be a schoolteacher, minister, scout cub leader, dancing teacher, nun, charity worker, or someone who has a similar name to you/your family.

Our editor has advised that after 10 long years of doing this, this could be the last book unless she finds someone to take over the reins. So don't put it off thinking that you can write it/them next year.

So, get your stories in by 31 March 2024. Any queries (including checking if someone else has already written their story) can be emailed to tddfhs452@gmail.com or ring the Secretary/Editor Marionne on (07) 4634 7377 on Tuesday or Friday when she's at our Research Library.

Our Story

Family Historian located in the Lockyer Valley, Queensland. Jacqui Rose Brock has more than 15 years experience, and in 2017 graduated from the University of Tasmania with a Diploma in Family History. Jacqui volunteers at her local library to assist people with their family history research, and facilitated family history workshops in Gatton and Laidley from 2017 to 2019. She is available to conduct family history research, grave and/or obituary searches, and offers a data entry service for those family historians who have their records in hard copy format and would like to convert to electronic/digital records.
