Not all knee pain in runners is the same.
Here’s when it might be your meniscus:

🏃‍♂️ swelling after longer runs
🏃‍♂️ pain during twisting or deep bending
🏃‍♂️ clicking or catching
🏃‍♂️ downhill running feels uncomfortable
🏃‍♂️ pain returns quickly when you increase volume

If this sounds familiar, you might be dealing with a meniscal issue — and the sooner you get clarity, the sooner you get back to running pain-free.

If you’ve irritated your meniscus, here’s what actually works.

1️⃣ Reduce swelling + restore movement
2️⃣ Rebuild quad + glute strength
3️⃣ Improve knee control + landing mechanics
4️⃣ Gradually return to running (not all at once!)
5️⃣ Add sport-specific drills before going full speed

A structured progression = a confident return to training.

Not sure where to start? That’s what we’re here for.

Before you book a surgeon — here’s what every athlete should know.

Most meniscal injuries do not require surgery.
Most athletes recover with:
✔ targeted strength
✔ knee control training
✔ progressive loading
✔ sport-specific drills

Surgery is typically only needed when:
• the knee locks
• you can’t fully straighten it
• the tear is large/unstable
• structured rehab hasn’t helped

If you’re unsure which path is right for your knee, we can guide you with a clear, confident plan.

👉 Save this — you’ll want it later
👉 Send this to someone considering surgery

Most athletes assume you need a dramatic twist or tackle to injure your meniscus…
But the truth is more subtle.

Runners: often irritated from repetitive load or sudden training increases.
Field & court athletes: usually from sharp direction changes, awkward landings, or deceleration under fatigue.

If your knee feels sharp, swollen, unstable, or “jammed,” early assessment makes a huge difference.

We help athletes make smart decisions about knee pain — and return to training sooner.

Does your knee feel “off” when you run, jump or change direction?
This is one of the most common early signs of a meniscus issue — especially in runners, netballers, basketballers, and field sport athletes.

Your meniscus helps absorb shock, stabilise the knee, and support quick directional changes. When irritated or torn, you might notice:
• swelling after training
• a sharp pinch when bending
• clicking or catching
• reduced confidence in movement

The good news? Most meniscal injuries recover without surgery when treated early.

If knee pain is slowing your training down, we can help you get back to full speed.

Old advice: “Rest it.”
New advice: “Move it (safely)!” ✅

Gentle movement and guided rehab help your ankle heal stronger and faster.
That’s why physiotherapy focuses on movement — not just rest.

Recovery from ITB syndrome depends on how soon you act.

Mild cases can improve in as little as 4–6 weeks with consistent rehab.

Chronic cases? It can take a few months — but patience pays off.

Stick to your plan, trust the process, and your comeback will be stronger than ever 💪

About Novar Sports Physio

Novar Sports Physio was established in 2018 by Adrian Primerano, who has been working in Private Practice since 2012.

Adrian completed his undergraduate Science degree with a double major in Physiology and Anatomical Science prior to his postgraduate Masters of Physiotherapy. This has equipped Adrian with the analytical skills to focus on attention to detail when developing a rehab program or injury management plan.

Adrian was involved with Hockey SA as the State Team Physiotherapist from 2013 to 2017. He spent 3 years working out of Adelaide Hill's football clinic, and has been the Physiotherapist for multiple athletes in Combat Sports (particularly Boxing and Kickboxing).

He has an excellent understanding of the physical demands and requirements in competitive sports, having been a student of Muay Thai (Kickboxing) and an active competitor in the sport for almost 10 years. This has equipped Adrian with the knowledge about optimal training load, appropriate recovery strategies and injury prevention management leading up to an event.
