You may know this friendly face - Exercise Physiologist Anna Rogers has been a part of our team for awhile now, and providing services to many locations across Ipswich, Brisbane, Brisbane Valley and Lockyer valley! If you haven't yet had the pleasure of meeting Anna, or if you'd like to know more about her, we're love to share more of her story!

Anna graduated from the University of Southern QLD with a Bachelor of Exercise physiology (Honours). Anna has extensive experience in providing exercise prescription for a wide range of health conditions to suit you and your current lifestyle.

Anna is passionate about Womenโ€™s health with over 15 yearsโ€™ experience working with women and applying exercise to improve health. Anna also loves working with musculoskeletal conditions and injuries with a goal to get you moving well again. Her motto is to keep it simple โ€“ with so much information out there Anna aims to make it clear and achievable no matter your goal with a fun and friendly approach.

Her experience in the field of Exercise includes: Cert IV in Fitness, Pilates mat and reformer instructor, Group fitness instructor, Pre and postnatal exercise coach, Level 1 sports trainer, Worksite fitness and rehabilitation including return to work plans. How long can you stand on one leg? ๐Ÿฆต

Itโ€™s no surprise that problems with balance increase your risk of falling. But, what makes this association worrying is that falls are the second leading cause of unintentional injury deaths worldwide, according to the World Health Organization.

A new study has found that a lack of balance can be a sign of underlying health issues. It suggested that the inability to stand on one leg for 10 seconds can indicate a higher risk of death from all causes during the following 10 years.

โš–๏ธ As we age, our flexibility and balance decline. During your 50s-70s a typical amount of time for a person to balance on one leg is:
50s = approx. 40 seconds
60s = approx. 20 seconds
70s = approx. 10 seconds

20% of the study's participants, aged 51-75, were unable to complete the balance test. Of those unable to complete the test, a higher proportion of people were obese, had heart disease, high blood pressure, or unhealthy blood fat profiles. Type 2 diabetes was also three times more common in this group.

โ€œItโ€™s essential to identify health problems that could be negatively affecting balance and correct them if possible,โ€ says Dr Adam Rivadeneyra.

โ€œIf the patient is healthy, balance can be improved with practice or focused physical therapy to improve strength, endurance, and coordination.โ€

โšก ESSA 2022 Election Priorities โšก Exercise for good health and a strong economy

It makes sense on so many levels to support greater access to exercise services to support good health outcomes and a strong economy. Under-investment in prevention, early intervention and the treatment of chronic conditions has resulted in a tide of chronic disease that is drowning an already overburdened health system.

The evidence is clear. Exercise interventions offer high quality clinical and cost effective solutions to help the Australian health care system better respond to the growing burden of disease and help support Australians to lead healthier lives.

ESSA is calling on candidates for the 2022 Federal Election to support five policy priorities to ensure all Australians can lead healthier, more active lives:

1๏ธโƒฃ Make exercise physiology services more affordable by removing GST from exercise physiology.
2๏ธโƒฃ Expand access to exercise physiology for people with chronic disease.
3๏ธโƒฃ Expand access to exercise physiology for people with mental health conditions (depression, anxiety, other mood disorders and severe mental illness).
4๏ธโƒฃ Expand access to exercise physiology in aged care.
5๏ธโƒฃ Increase preventive health investment to 5% of total annual health expenditure.

Health spending has generally grown faster than the rest of the economy over the past 40 years and without changes to prevent and treat chronic disease, the health system will become even more unsustainable. All that is needed is for the next government to make an investment in exercise services a priority.

Donโ€™t give up -! Today Nic wanted to cancel but turned up for her session. This made me super proud as it shows how far she has come in her journey. Muscles sore and heavy from a new move last week, it would have been easier to quit today. Instead we spoke about mobility, I stretched her and used the roller abs we finished with some cable work on the AVANTI.
โœ… heart rate increase
โœ… habit kept with turning up
โœ… education on why she felt this way and a treatment plan
โœ… homework given
โœ… plan made for the week to stick to goal
Moral of the story !!! Stick with it, show up and be honest with your trainer, let us help you ๐Ÿ˜Š
