Do you know someone who has recently experienced whiplash from a road traffic incident?

We’re inviting Queenslanders with recent lived experience of whiplash (within the past 3 months) to take part in a 2-hour online workshop. Your insights will help shape RISE — a new text message support program designed to make recovery more accessible and responsive to the emotional impact of trauma.

➡️Participants will be remunerated $50/hour for their time.

It was great to be part of UQ's 'Through our Eyes' event this week. The two-day event focused on examining systemic issues that impact the health and well-being of people and communities at every stage of life, sparking great conversations with diverse perspectives from research, community, and providers.

JJ Hitchens from RAD Rollin All Day (consumer co-lead on our VR Wheelchair project) took part in the Community Voice Panel, facilitated by Jo Maxwell and Jess Taylor. Despite the different interests and agendas of the panellists, some common themes emerged:
🌟 Conversations take time and sometimes seem to stray off topic. Listening for the gems is a skill and takes patience
🌟 It is vital that researchers meet consumers and community members in the spaces where they feel safe and comfortable (hint - this is not a hospital or clinic setting)
🌟 Consumers bring more to the table than their health conditions - their skills, professional expertise, and different perspectives are invaluable to the team.

This month, we're focused on co-design with consumers. On September 4th, we hosted a very popular webinar covering the basics. Last week, our guest presenters Adrienne Young and Anja Christoffersen returned for a follow-up workshop.

Consumers and researchers got the chance to put theory from the webinar into practice as we dove into a mini co-design sprint. By getting to know each other, finding common ground and working through a common issue we had a unique opportunity to practice skills in a safe space. Consumers took on facilitation roles, and our researchers drew on their own lived experiences as consumers.
