Carer Spotlight – Laura

Laura started in the industry by chance. Her mother-in-law, a carer herself, told Laura she’d be great at it. Rose Life Care was the only place Laura applied – and it turned out to be one of her favourite jobs. She never expected to end up in this field.

Laura says you really have to push yourself to build relationships and a strong reputation with both clients and colleagues.

When people hear you're a carer, they often expect the worst – intense work and aggressive clients. But Laura says the reality is different: it’s about connection and building trust.

She loves how the “oldies” never lose their personality – “They just get cheekier!” Most people assume older clients are isolated, but Laura says they're often “booked and busy” with their own people and activities.

One of Laura’s most meaningful experiences was supporting a high-dementia client who didn’t remember her name but always thought they were close friends. The client’s family appreciated the bond and built a strong relationship with Laura.

Clients are always happy to see Laura return from leave, often asking if she’s safe and happy too – something she finds incredibly meaningful.

Through this work, Laura says she discovered a whole new level of patience – in the best way. She's also learned how important it is for some clients to simply pass on their wisdom and life experiences.

Her advice? Practice professional boundaries – even if you learn the hard way. The job is mentally, physically, and emotionally tough, but Laura finds it so rewarding.

Rose Life Care is growing and so is our gardening team! We’re on the lookout for a passionate and reliable Gardener to join our home care community and support our clients in keeping their outdoor spaces safe, tidy, and enjoyable.

Whether you’re looking to work alongside our existing gardener or keen to manage a small set of regular clients, we’re open to creating a role that works for the right person.

About the Role:

- Assist our main gardener with regular rounds or take on a set client list independently

- Mow lawns, trim edges, remove green waste, w**d gardens, and maintain tidy outdoor spaces

- Chat with clients and offer a friendly face as part of their weekly or fortnightly support

- Work within the Rose Life Care team – we support one another and value quality, reliability, and care

You’ll Need:

- Previous experience in gardening, maintenance, or outdoor work

- A caring attitude and respectful communication skills

- Police Check and Working with Vulnerable People clearance (or willing to get one)
