On 16 August 2024, the Analysis of Unmet Need for Psychosocial Supports Outside the NDIS revealed that more than 92,000 Queenslanders were not receiving the psychosocial support they needed. The report laid bare a service gap equivalent to 3.67 million hours of missing support every year, with clear recommendations for systemic investment. Yet, one year later, no concrete funding commitment has been made.
At QAMH, our advocacy priorities remain focused on expanding access to psychosocial supports, with a 50:50 funding split between state and federal governments. We’ve called for the establishment of a clear governance structure to address fragmentation, with flexible and locally responsive funding.
The consequences of inaction are clear. Without timely, community-based psychosocial supports, people are left to fall through the cracks, contributing to an already overcrowded hospital system and Queensland’s status as having the highest ambulance ramping rates in the nation.
Queenslanders deserve better.
