Big thanks for the article published for our charity on how we help with mental health issues around our community
In the Fraser Coast community, where demand for support services often exceeds availability,
the We’ve Got You Foundation is delivering immediate, hands-on support to individuals and
families facing urgent health and life challenges.
Founded by local resident Sue Dodd and a close friend, the organisation was created to bridge
the gap between when people need help and when formal services become available.
“I’ve lived in Hervey Bay for over 20 years and have always been passionate about supporting
our community,” Sue said. “We saw a clear need for practical, short-term support for people who
simply can’t wait.”
The We’ve Got You Foundation provides short-term, in-home and community-based
support, typically over a two to six week period, tailored to each person’s situation.
Support services include:
● In-home care and daily living assistance
● Transport to medical appointments, treatments, and hospital visits
● Help following hospital discharge or surgery
● Support during medical treatments, including cancer care
● Assistance for individuals experiencing health or personal crisis
● Short-term relief for families and carers under pressure
A key part of this support is ensuring people can access medical care when they need it.
Through a valued partnership with Health Cab & Co, the foundation helps coordinate reliable
medical transport for those who may otherwise miss critical appointments.
“Transport is one of the biggest barriers for people accessing care,” Sue said. “Through our
partnership with Health Cab & Co, we’re able to make sure people get where they need to be,
safely and on time.”
Beyond practical care, the foundation plays an important role in supporting mental health and
emotional wellbeing during times of crisis. By providing immediate, reliable assistance, the
foundation helps reduce stress, anxiety, and feelings of isolation that often come with illness,
recovery, or financial pressure.
“Many of the people we support are overwhelmed,” Sue said. “When someone steps in to help
— whether it’s getting them to an appointment, helping at home, or simply being there — it
takes a huge weight off their shoulders.”
This early, practical support helps stabilize situations before they escalate, giving individuals and
families the space to focus on recovery, maintain routines, and feel supported rather than alone.
The foundation supports a wide range of community members, including those living with
chronic illness, recovering from surgery, navigating treatment, or experiencing temporary
hardship without access to immediate services.
As demand continues to grow, the We’ve Got You Foundation is calling on the community for
support. More volunteers and business sponsorships are urgently needed to help expand
services — particularly to meet the increasing demand for medical transport across the Fraser
Coast.
“We know the need is there, and it’s growing,” Sue said. “With more volunteers and support
from local businesses, we can reach more people and ensure no one misses out on essential
care.”
Powered by volunteers, local partnerships, and community backing, the We’ve Got You
Foundation continues to expand its reach across the region.
“At its core, our role is simple,” Sue said. “We step in when support isn’t there — and make sure
people aren’t facing tough times alone.”
